Suggestions on more fluid movement/Weapon handling

Recommended Posts

I noticed when raising your weapon with 2xCtrl it feels a bit slow and awkward, even more so when moving. Why don't you just have the weapon lowered to begin with and then hold right mouse too raise and sight your weapon, but much more quick and responsive. Games like Ghost Recon: Future Soldier use this method. Holding right mouse to pop up the sights and engage the target feels more tactical. For movement I suggest two stance states. Relaxed and then combat ready with all the four speeds there is now (walk, jog, run and sprint). Allow 2xCtrl to trigger a combat ready stance with the weapon ready but not drawn. You could even have this trigger as you are being shot at. It would make for a much more fluid and realistic feel. I'm very interested to what the community would think of this, and possibly if BIS would adopt this feature into the game.

Pressing left mouse button will also raise your weapon from lowered. Really, the 2xW is only useful for lowering it.

As it is now, all that is done is the camera zooms in on the sights. When binding the raise weapon command to right mouse, it feels utterly broken. Switching back and forth is slow and awkward, try it your self.

Are you sure about this? When lowered, the left (trigger) mouse button for me just raises the weapon back to raised, no sights.

The gun also raises with a quick tap of the trigger, i dont even have mine bound to the ads button at all.

I also have raise and lower on a specific button, it all depends on how you set your controls up.

I chuckled.

Readied weapon is already more quick and responsive than holding it down and then spending a half a second to bring it up. Saying that - when you jog there's a low-ready stance. BIS just needs to add/replace relaxed stance with low-ready perhaps for the rest of movement speeds?

Games like Ghost Recon: Future Soldier use this method.

GRFS is neither realistic nor tactical. It's a straightforward arcade shooter. Not really a good example to compare ArmA to - just sayin'

GRFS is just an example, and in now way do I want Arma to be a arcade shooter. Arma 3 alpha somewhat lowers the weapon when in a jog, but it would look better if always lowered. Raising and sighting the weapon should be just as quick as when you sight your weapon now. The soldier should be ready for combat but not point at everything automatically.
