sqb-sma 66 Posted March 23, 2013 I feel (actually hear) it differently. I hear clsoe footsteps, ambient sounds and even distant, directional gunfire just fine. IMHO ArmA III sounds way better than ArmA II. On my 5.1 Hi-Fi System (attached to PC) the guns sound very realistic and the whizzes and cracks from nearby shots make me take my head down even in RL. Even on my headset with Stereo (when I play late at night) it sounds a lot better than ArmA II. Maybe there is something wrong with different hardware/driver settings? I'd take the ArmA III sound effects over ArmA II ACE any day.My sound system: Soundcard: Creative X-Fi Gamer Driver: Latest Speakers: Teufel Concept E Magnum 450 Watt 5.1 System Headphone: Sennheiser RS 120 II I'm on a similar system (with headphones), creative soundcard and headset. The engine is very impressive, I can pinpoint locate bullets whizzing by and the locational technology (not to mention doppler) is amazing. However the actual sounds are not so good, I'd love to port JSRS in to Arma3... I think the main flaw is with sounds at a distance, they sound like a quiet version of sounds up close, and that's not right. They should change greatly, with less of the mechanical sounds coming through and more of the "pop". Also, bullet cracks are far too quiet, the supersonic crack of a bullet is very loud and quite high pitched.
Masharra 10 Posted March 23, 2013 (edited) Thats quite odd. For me and a friend sounds are all over the place. I actually considered them absolute shite and thought they were 100 placeholder. Chopper is a click off but sounds right next to us, footsteps sound right next to us but are blocks away, gunfire sounding just like the footsteps etc etc Soundard - realtek onboard thingy. driver- latest speakers- Logitech 5.1 ( my neighbours love me ) Its a warzone every-night. headphones- (used for comms only) ill update later with actual specs. As it stands for us A2 sounds (with acex_sm or jsrs) are leaps and bounds ahead. ------- Concerning the movement and immersion and such. I dont know.... I play alot of shooters. From mw4 to bo1 (no mw2 or any of the non ded server ones) to the f2p shooters soldierfront, ava, gunz( which has done WONDERS for my reflexes korean-style!) etc etc. is it really all that different? As of right now, it doesnt really feel that way to me. I mean Lethality of the rounds? I only play on hardcore modes in the other games so the lethality is essentially the same Jumping aka bunnyhopping. Pfft not every good player in those games are bunnyhoppers/ dolphin divers and I dont need/ use those tactics. So same. Size of map? Pfft Looks at server list.... I can tell you where most of the combat is taking place. I was a Clan FKA rusher #4 or was it sixth in the US, and every non arma loving bone in my body is screaming to me, " why are you being a bish camper. You have the speed, you have the smoothness! Rush these sob's" All I need for this to be more comparable to other shooters is a stun grenade or a flashbang. Give me one of those two right now, and I will have grinch smile. I dont feel like a soldier. I have a friend who was in the gulf war and didnt have the "best" of time. (Who did?) Wanted to get him playing arma 2 so I wouldnt be the only other infantry guy there. he looked at about 10 seconds of footage and was like Nopebye.. I dont know what he would say about about a3 but I dont think he would have that severe a reaction. Some caveats ~ Tis alpha so yadda yadda ~ Tis going to be tweaking speeds yadda yadda ~ Tis dependent on missions. (relatively poor choice right now) ~ Tis anything else I forgot to mention. If these things we can do currently arent unrealistic then I must say, Call of duty, BF3, and its ilk arent that unrealistic, atleast, in these areas. Im not overly for or against any version as I can "adapt". I had to adapt when my never will sell out "red storm entertainment" did, albeit in a more drastic way, I can adapt to these movements and such here. Though is it really adapt if its more or less the same in other games? Edited March 23, 2013 by Masharra
TheGamingBluejay 1 Posted March 23, 2013 I think it has to do with that cracking sound the guns made in Arma 2 and the way they struck objects. Also, I've heard of some medic capabilities? I don't have the alpha and I haven't seen these in use in the videos I've seen but I'd imagine that if there was always a medic available to heal you that would ruin that feeling of, "If I die, it's all over". bars91 956 Posted March 24, 2013 As I have expressed before in other A2 and A3 treads: -fighting in bright holiday territories is shit immersion(think of all the most "immersive" games like STALKER and what enviroment do they take place in) -future warfare is shit immersion(not one person will be able to associate himself with his virtual character in this kind of scenario for obvious reasons) -war is hell(not a speed-soft game in California with a bunch of US SF cosplayers running around with Fagpull'd gunz) -rubberized physics is shit immersion As of right now these are my associations with ArmA3 in it's current state. That said, I think that current anims are better then in A2. But perfect they are not.
