What's wrong with all those servers (80%) with a red cross?

Recommended Posts

I know the game is an Alpha yet, but I am wondering so many servers are displayed with a red cross instead of a green circle? :(

Maybe it's because you are running the dev build and the red cross ones in the list are running the normal version?

Yeah, the red cross indicates that you and the server are running incompatible versions of the game. This is probably because you're in the dev build of the game and most servers aren't. Just opt back out if you want to play online (I know it's a pain xD. Performance and graphics settings are already improved in the dev build).

Every server I've played on so far with the dev build looses connection after some time, very annoying. Not a lot of dev build servers up either. Otherwise it's good.

I'd suggest sticking with the Dev builds and eventually the server list supporting DEV will grow larger.

Using the Dev build and reporting issues will help with overall game performance, stability, and bug fixes. We are in the testing phase of development, to opt out of the testing build is rather counter productive in terms of any useful feedback. Once the game hits beta then consider not opting in for dev builds. But while we in alpha I think everyone should be using it.

I've had no issues with Dev servers, other than there not being as many to choose from in terms of not joining the rather dull wasteland mission.

Currently the Dev build includes new options, better overall performance, Ultra settings across the board with the quality tab, and a whole slew of various bug fixes.

Indeed.. but the DEV atm is too unstable, i recognize the importance of testing, but there must be some fun for the users to play on it... if it crashes every 30 minutes there's nothing to test coz the users will go away.

Furthermore I imagine not many newcomers can use even the editor yet to create even simplest mission to keep them ingame.

Wait for the BETA to come out before you start trying to "play the game"

I've yet to see any instability with using the DEV version on servers compared to the previous builds. If you are getting crashes every 30 minutes, the mission file you're playing may have errors in it or simply needs to be updated due to scripting changes. Try a different mission and report back.

It's because of the crashes you're getting every 30 minutes that require the testing and feedback. If they don't get picked up on and addressed those issues will simply get carried over to the "stable" alpha build.

I hate to say it but I believe the devs should really force only one version of the game, and that's the developers build during the Alpha phase. If the game breaks for a day or two, then it breaks. It's supposed to break in alpha to find the fixes. This is not a demo or a stable finished product minus content, people need to stop treating it like it is.

By having multiple builds you really destroy the total testing potential. Like stated in the title 80% of the servers are running old server data which would follow the same curve for users. If everyone reported bugs and voted on the feedback tracker right now it would contain only 20% up to date feedback for what will be the next "stable" build. Of course not everyone is reporting bugs or even looking at the tracker.

Using WithSIX to find servers with the dev build finds a lot more servers than the in-game browser does... but 90% of them are Wasteland servers. *Shudders*

Exactly I didn't know that thanks! :)

The game is on Steam, it's not a closed test. We're not talking about me, we're talking about the other millions out there. :)

I was playing on a DEV with the DEV for over 3hours, no crash... It can and does, but then its a Alpha. Its for testing. Most of the issues from people, seem to be they think this a a full game.

I've tested across multiple servers and for more hours, and the crash ratio with the DEV branch was too high, so i've reverted because there were no way to get a barely minimum fun. If you look at the server list many did the same.
