Nausea when driving

Recommended Posts

Whenever I drive in 3rd person I get nauseous within a minute to the point where I have to stop driving or get into 1st person. I suspect that the weird effect when driving in 3rd person is to blame. It's hard to explain what it is but it sure was not present in Arma 2.

Has anyone else experienced this?

you need to get to the point when you puke, after that you will never be having nausea again

Wierd effect in third person? I thought you might have been talking about how the camera hugs characters better but maybe not..perhaps the new animations? Maybe you need to check head bob? I don't know but for sure vehicles move differently with physX which is why they rock more...which as far as reality goes is actually more true than the static frame they have had.

Also are you sure you aren't just feeling ill or catching something? I once played unreal tournament and felt a bit natious about the motion, something I never encountered before..an hour later I hurled and was fine.

Just have 6 or 7 beers and you should be fine!

After looking at it a bit more in depth I have come to the conclusion that it's not a visual effect, more a problem with how the camera handles when you drive around. And thanks for the concern, but no, I'm not sick. I only feel this when I'm driving in 3rd person. It gets especially bad when I'm on multiplayer and playing with lower FPS. I also have head bob turned off, not sure this even matters when you are driving though?

In case headbob had to do with them minute changes in head motion, though is all first person. Tthe external camera is definately different..in Arma 2 it remained mostly horizontal unless flipped, whereas in A3 it seems to lock on to the players horizontal level, causing things such as hill bumps to tilt it back with the vehicle as opposed to seeing only the vehicle tilt back, making any little bump or dip noticeable. Thank goodness it is only like that for ground vehicles and not air ;)

Sounds like the 'okt noblur' mod or similar is needed for your case. Covers this sort of feeling of motion sickness caused by your slower fps and fast screen movement, infact here's a section of his read-me:

'Okt_noBlur' mod/addon

"This addon removes the blur shader which causes performance and sickness issues

for people. It was created because BIS has not addressed the issues with the

rotBlur shader which makes the whole screen blur effect. At low FPS, the issues

in this shader make the game unplayable. Yes turning off Post Processing will

fix it, however some of the other (good) effects are disabled too."

Could be this or something similar would help you out..

Keep an eye on 'Armaholic' for addon/mod releases, also on the forum here, something to help may pop up..

its cause the camera stays on horizon with the vehicle not like in arma 2 where the vehicle goes up a hill and the camera stays on the map horizon
