Challenger3 0 Posted July 8, 2002 Ok installed nice and juicy after sorting cd-key problem, try to load and then after all the splash its crashes to desktop not giving me a hint what went wrong, but after multple attempts says "failed memory map 0.pbo". Now I've got a vast collection of addons but with regards to earlier posts this apparently should'nt be a problem, I've 384mb ram so I can't see how thats a problem either, anyone got any ideas (apart from a full reinstall!? Placebo 29 Posted July 8, 2002 Hmm weird, to me this looks like the general discussion forum, not the troubleshooting forum, hell not even the resistance forum which would have been closer, did you even attempt to look if you were posting in the right place? Moving to troubleshooting
Placebo 29 Posted July 8, 2002 "Now I've got a vast collection of addons but with regards to earlier posts this apparently should'nt be a problem" Clearly that doesn't mean posts made in the last week, cos if you had read anything posted recently you would have discovered Resistance seems to have massive memory requirements at the moment, both in RAM and virtual memory, thus all or the large majority of addons should be removed. ixnay 1 Posted July 8, 2002 Not to mention that reinstalls neither take an absurdly long time nor are they that much of a headache. I do a reinstall EVERY time a patch / addon is released officially. Just a force of habit so as to avoid problems. If you put addons in and start changing things around, it's your best bet. I run a LAN group wherein every Friday night ~15 or so people gather together in one garage and play OFP. If anyone has any problems with their copy of OFP (CTD, hang, error message), the default answer is, "Wipe and reinstall". Just my opinion, of course... .:iX
Mister Frag 0 Posted July 8, 2002 384MB of RAM is a healthy amount of RAM to run the stock game, but it isn't enough if you have a large Addons folder. Make sure your swap file has a maximum size of no less than 768MB, and possibly try moving some of the files in the Addons folder to another location just to see if that allows the game to load. theavonlady 2 Posted July 9, 2002 Search The FAQ for "resistance reinstall". Wouldn't it be easier to just move your unofficial addons out of OFP's folders temporarily rather than reinstall?
WhoCares 0 Posted July 9, 2002 You might also try Ex-Ronins Tuning suggestions, especially the last part has influence on the memory usage at startup. If your terrainGrid is smaller then the mentioned value (12.5 = normal), the memory usage increases drastically. Together with a big Addon folder, you might easily run out of memory...
