feralcircus 2 Posted January 28, 2013 I've noticed in a video that the characters in ARMA 3 have the ability to duck down from the waist... Does anyone have any information on weather this action can be controlled incrementally via Trackir? (like when leaning) THANX
dmarkwick 261 Posted January 28, 2013 You can kind of "cheat" an incremental duck using TrackIR by leaning forward with the mouse & looking up with the TrackIR. You can't aim in this position but you can peek.

feralcircus 2 Posted January 29, 2013 Cheers folks!... So do you think It's safe to say that It's an added feature? Anyone with inside knowledge? It would be great to be able to bob up & down from behind structures using Trackir :-)
liquidpinky 11 Posted January 29, 2013 I would surmise that if ducking was now a proper controlled action you could assign it to a TrackIR, either directly in the A3 controls setup or externally with additional software.
feralcircus 2 Posted January 31, 2013 Cheers Liquidpinky! I always like to read your comments! Straight to the point, helpful and wise :-) I wonder why they never seem to release videos that demonstrate the smooth analogue movement of the characters combined with TrackIR? Showing the full potential of the simulation. Always seems to be the basic jerky (on/off) WASD control system for some reason.

Showing the full potential of the simulation. Always seems to be the basic jerky (on/off) WASD control system for some reason. Most likely because the "ducking" mechanic -- stance adjustment -- was designed with keyboards in mind; at E3 and Gamescom it used Ctrl as a modifier in combination with WSADQE, i.e. Ctrl+S from crouch, and in any case they had no TrackIRs at the conventions, I guess specifically to show off that "oh hey you don't need any special hardware to get in on what we're showing off here, just the same keyboard and mouse." feralcircus 2 Posted January 31, 2013 Yes I fully understand that the game is designed to be played with mouse & keyboard and it's looking mighty AWESOME... But it would be nice to see a one off vid showing off it's FULL potential :-) Does a keyboard exist with a small xbox style analogue stick built in? That would be cool :-) Just 1 analogue stick & a head tracking device (2 controls) replaces a colossal 8 separate movement related keys!!!
chortles 263 Posted February 1, 2013 (edited) Yes I fully understand that the game is designed to be played with mouse & keyboard and it's looking mighty AWESOME...But it would be nice to see a one off vid showing off it's FULL potential :-) No, what I meant was showing it with mouse and keyboard only specifically not to scare off people who might see the head tracking and think "oh no I need that to be competitive against someone with that? Forget it I can't afford that or this game." BI luvs za muh-nay... :pDoes a keyboard exist with a small xbox style analogue stick built in? That would be cool :-)As it turns out, there are several such models with a stick instead of a touchpad or a trackball, but so far as I saw with the stick placed on the right or upper right and two buttons (for LMB and RMB) on the left! There's also the old Saitek Cyborg Command Unit, but it's advertised as having a "4-way analog hat switch", while the Logitech G13 is out there but suggests that its "joystick" is only 4-way -- up/down/left/right -- instead of 'true' analog control, while the Belkin N52TE/Razer Nostromo and Razer Orbweaver's own thumbsticks are both described as "programmable 8-way directional thumb-pad" either "either for movement or as modifier keys", again also instead of 'true' analog control.EDIT: There is this mod using a (non-mechanical?) standard keyboard where he desoldered the WSAD key switches from the circuit board and then put magnetic rods under the key caps, which would come in contact with "Hall effect sensors" (link is to the model cited) which sends "an analog voltage that goes closer to ground or Vcc depending on proximity of north or south poles" to a microcontroller which send data to a digital potentiometer which then simulates the left stick of a(n actual) wired XB360 controller that's hooked up to the PC... Be aware though that he uses 3D printing for pieces with which to hold the sensors in place, and that he uses "rapid prototyping gel" (or "hot glue" as he calls it verbally) at 6:11 to stick the sensors/caps in place, and you'd be taking apart a wired 360 controller and attaching the aforementioned stuff to its board in place of the (removed) left stick, with resistors to simulate the removed mechanical potentiometers, and that you'd actually be unbinding forward/backwards/sideways movement in the keybindings and enabling the gamepad. feralcircus 2 Posted February 1, 2013 WOW AWESOME! That's how all keyboards should be made :-) Keeps everything nice and smooth. Although it does look complex to the point where I'd probably fry my fingers off trying to construct that :-s lol Think I'll just keep using my xbox stick & mouse :-) Thanks for that, analogue definitely needs to be the future for all keyboards! :-)

Although it does look complex to the point where I'd probably fry my fingers off trying to construct that :-s lolThink I'll just keep using my xbox stick & mouse :-) I actually have seen the Nostromo recommended as an option, but as I said in my previous post, its "thumb pad" is actually more of an 8-way "D-pad" instead of a 'true' analog stick -- so it's still "eight way direction" and the "amount of travel" is binary. It seems that the stance adjustment system is designed with keyboards in mind, so you might have specific stance increments even if using a controller instead of the amount of lean or body movement being pressure-sensitive, i.e. "upright / lean / sidestep" with no in-between, which I don't believe that a TrackIR or middleware (for, say, Kinect inputs) would be able to bypass.Mind you, we have yet to see this being played with a controller with analog sticks... You actually have very good control over how much you want to lean in Arma 2 using TrackIR
Tonci87 163 Posted February 3, 2013 Seriously, why has no keyboard manufacturer ever considered to put a analogue stick on the left side of the keyboard? I think I´ll write to Roccat, they are crazy enough to actually do it.

I did try but it just felt DEAD. Was like M1cr0s0ft Steven Hawking Simulator! :-s lol I was automatically leaning and my head was all over the place but nothing was happening :-{ They should sell it with the game as a package :-) ---------- Post added at 12:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:37 PM ---------- seriously, why has no keyboard manufacturer ever considered to put a analogue stick on the left side of the keyboard? I'm the same, trying to use TrackIR in real life while out shopping :-s Looking for 'F12' (reset) wondering why it's not working properly lol My wife embracing me saying "This is real now darling, We're in the supermarket."
