naizarak 4 Posted January 22, 2013 So with all these excellent mods floating around I'd like to ask you guys for the best overall mod combination to enhancing Arma 2. I'm currently using ACE with ASR AI. Are other mods like CoSLX, Zeus AI, JSRS compatible with each other? Is one recommended over the other? Basically, what do you guys use?
froggyluv 2136 Posted January 22, 2013 Beta Ace JSRS ASR-AI TPWCAS (a must imo) http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?143797-TPWCAS-TPWC-AI-Suppression-System ...for general overall better gameplay. Sometimes I'll slap a few GL4 or SLX pbo's in the mix but results can vary.
-Coulum- 35 Posted January 22, 2013 In terms of visual/sound mods, I find JSRS a must, and I also really like Blastcore Visuals. Both up immersion quite alot and breath new life into the game. They are also very professionally done mods and are very polished in my opinion. In terms of gameplay mods, I use ACE minus the ai parts. Its a massive mod, and I am a fan of realism but sometimes the performance it costs outways the realism it brings, so I don't always play with it. For AI mods I use ASR with a slightly modified version of TPWC ai suppress. ASR makes the ai have more realistic abilities (though isn't able to fix some of the hardcoded ai "quirks") and makes the ai choose better general stances. also makes Them gather ammo if possible/necessary. TPWC ai suppress, makes it so that the ai react better to being fired upon by going down in stance and decreasing in aiming ability. I find this combo makes the ai fairly challenging, and doesn't confuse them by trying to overwrite and conflict with their default behaviours. You'll find firefights are longer than vanilla with these mods. I also use dapman first aid on occasion. Its far superior to the default BIS first aid module, and works on every ai, not just those of your squad. They are better at healing with dapman as well. It is less forgiving than bis first aid and usually one shot will have you temporarily out of action until you are healed thus the reason I use it on occassion. As for islands and units, I strongly suggest Mcnools tierone operators, and all his islands. Clafghan is a great map as well but i think some of the foliage doesn't agree with the ai leading to some "xray" vision. COSLX has far too many features for me to even remember. What I really like about it were the ai improvements, and first aid. the wounding system it introduces is really great. I do find however that it is the biggest performance chompers, and although it improves the ai on cover finding and building use, it also confuses the ai due to conflicting with default ai decisions and sometimes they will be trying to move to cover when they should be doing something else like shooting at the enemy. Zeus is very outdated and imo suffers from the same issues as SLX ai (Zeus findcover is actually a modified verions of SLX findcover I believe). Zeus however tells the ai how to do some nice suppressive fire. They will eat through ammunition in no time though and at times you will see an ai continuously shooting at the bush 15 m ahead when clearly nobody is in there. But at other times you will find you are unable to move because an ai gunner is nailing the piece of cover you are behind. Another ai mod to consider is GL4. probably the most outdated mod, it is a use at you own risk thing. It makes the ai decision making on a squad level much better. Unfortanately, to do this it has to assign the ai temporary waypoints. This can really messup missions not designed for GL4, but will also prevent ai squads advancing when they clearly shouldn't be. Best way to find out is to simply try them though. I can almost guarantee that you will want the first two mods I mentioned however so download them - NOW. Oh almost forgot the beta as well. What you're looking for is compilation called COWarMod. However JSRS, ASR AI+TPWC and Blastcore is an awesome starts
