starstreams 0 Posted July 7, 2002 Anyone know if there is a US vehicle in OFP that can drive on water like the Russian BRDM? See here -> http://starstreams3.tripod.com/brdm_s.htm I think it would be cool to have a very fogy and swampy mission with lots of ponds and rivers and people could use these vehicles to get around. the mood would be very swamp like. Paratrooper 0 Posted July 7, 2002 Well the M113 is amphibious, I had a scare when I forgot this in one of my missions on Nogova, I blew the bridge when my Russians fell back only to see the Yanks coming across the river in them!
starstreams 0 Posted July 7, 2002 hmmm, didn’t know that, so your saying that the M113 can drive over water? if that is true it's kind of a disadvantage to the Russians for my plan. are there any other US vehicles that can drive across water that don't have guns on them? I don't think that BRDM has weapons it can shoot?
Paratrooper 0 Posted July 7, 2002 I think the G8 mod made an M113 without a gun on top, look there.
Major Fubar 0 Posted July 7, 2002 There is an unarmed M113 ambulance in OFP...
starstreams 0 Posted July 7, 2002 Opps, your right I forgot about the M113 ambulance that should do the trick! I'll be honest though, I realty think the inside of the BRDM looks cool and is fun to drive, I wish the US had a similar vehicle to drive over water. The inside of the M113 looks kind of plain if you know what I mean? Thanks guys!
Major Fubar 0 Posted July 7, 2002 Yeah, the BRDM is a great vehicle...it's a shame it's armour stats are so screwed in OFP (way too low)...
Doggy 0 Posted July 7, 2002 yeah the armor on it is absolutley rubbish
starstreams 0 Posted July 7, 2002 I agree Major Fubar, I don’t even think that thing can knock a tree down unless your going 60 and hopefully you don’t die in the process on trying..lol

A .50 cal M2 will rip it to shreds in real life. I wouldn't be surprised if 7.62mm AP rounds can penetrate it. But...unfortunately the OFP engine uses cumulative damage rather then penetration capabilities of weapons, so if fire enough shots at it with an assault rifle, it will blow up. That part is unrealistic...but oh well. The armor stats could stand to go up a little bit...but not too much. It should be more or less around the same level as the BMP. starstreams 0 Posted July 8, 2002 Hmmm, do you know if Resistance uses penetration damage as apposed to Cumulative? I notice a lot of games today are switching from Cumulative to Penetration, I would expect no less from a high end game like this. I know that using a penetrative damage factor would take up more CPU power for sure but hell with the P4 and AMD systems systems of today the game should play like glass either way. Eviscerator 0 Posted July 8, 2002 i think you are going the wrong way about it, instead of giving west another apc without a machine gun, you should give east an apc with a machine gun, and not the brdm, its not designed for carrying troops is a scout car, something from the btr family should do the trick, i have no idea why bis matched the bmp to the m113 its from a totally different class but i suppose they tried to rectify it with the m2a2 which then unbalanced things :/
Eviscerator 0 Posted July 8, 2002 oh and the bmp in real life has 19mm armour in the hull and 23mm in the turret...not such a safe place to be now :/ bis have way over armoured the one ingame, an axe could penetrate this thing the brdm has 10mm of armour all over... That info is from the U.S. Army field manual FM 100-2-3. http://www.sovietarmy.com/vehicles/brdm-2.html For pictures of the BRDM-1 look here: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/row/brdm-1.htm The nose is much longer then the version in OFP. I just wish they had put in the 14.7mm turret on the BRDM. BUt I guess they just didn't want to take the time to finish it up...or they wanted to make it the equivalent of the Humvee or something stupid like that. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
Major Fubar 0 Posted July 8, 2002 Funny you should mention the Humvee...the BRDM armour value is way too low, and the Humvee's is way to high...since they we're both introduced at the same time, almost makes me think the values got switched or something. VXR 9 Posted July 8, 2002 yeah but making a landing is not a good id because it goes 10/mh swimming would be faster in real LOL
starstreams 0 Posted July 10, 2002 Has any of these values been changed in Resistance? I’m still waiting for it to get to stores by me. Btw, that M2A2 tank Eviscerator you mentioned, I love this thing, they did a great job on the inside as well as the outside! http://starstreams3.tripod.com/tank1.htm
