My game is laggy, no idea why.

Recommended Posts

To start this off, here are my specs.

CPU: Intel® Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40GHz

RAM: 8.2 GB

OS: Microsoft Windows 8 (build 9200), 64-bit

Video Card: GeForce GT 620

Video RAM: 4.0 GB

Hardware T&L: Yes

Pixel Shader version: 5.0

Vertex Shader version: 5.0

DirectX version: 11.0

Free Disk Space: 1.8 TB

When I load CAMPAIGN, not multiplayer so the ping doesn't effect the gameplay, I have about a 1 second delay for everything I do. I look around, it looks around 1 second later. I move, it moves 1 second later.

The gaming PC that I previously played on had specs that didn't even meet recommended (I used canirunit.com), and this PC meets WAY ABOVE recommended, yet it still lags!

On the gaming PC I previously played on, I had no delay at all, no lag (unless it was a high pinged server for me), but on this new gaming PC, I have that 1 second delay on it, can anybody please tell me why?

IS THE REASON THAT IT LAGS BECAUSE I HAVE WINDOWS 8?!?

Nope, it doesn't:

Video Card: GeForce GT 620

This is a low-end card and you try to play a game that requires high-end components. The GT 620 is a rebranded GT 520, based on Fermi architecture and even as GT 520 it was a inferior GPU for high end gaming.

Anyway, make sure DX9 is updated aswell all hardware drivers. With a bit of luck you can get rid off that 1 sec delay.

Hi,

Might be a problem related to Windows 8 - but I might have seen a solution on the forums to this problem:

In the Profile configuration it is possible to set a number of prerendered images and people who had this problem, had to decrease it.

Might be a try worth.

look for:

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000;

GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3;

As you have an I7 - do you need HT? If you are only playing on this computer, you might want to disable HT.

Regarding the Videocard, I don't know if the 620 really is a gamers card.

Are you sure Myke?, not that i know myself, but according to the Nvidia Hierarchy of the card families seen here:

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus

hes got a high end card thats in the top family of cards.

Idk just seems like it would be a good card, I maybe misunderstanding how the card family works, can you explain?

Card Im using is a Geforce Gtx 285, but i dont get lag in my game unless I got a ton of Ai running around, dead bodies everywhere, burning wrecks,

and smoke pluming all over creation, and my specs are worse then his:

win xp 32bit

AMD single core 3800

Geforce GtX 285

2gb ram

750watt psu

You have to read the numbers one by one. The first number (actual generation is 6, previous was 5) states the generation of the GPU. Usually that means also new architecture or die-shrinks or other improvements that justify a raise by one. Actual 6XX are based on the Kepler Architecture while the 5XX series was Fermi Architecture.

The second number states the position inside the architecture, higher numbers means higher performance. So a X9X is superior to a X2X. If now the gap between the numbers is quite high, these is even true for GPU's of different generations. So a 580 will outperform a 620 by far. See it like this: a 30 year old Ferrari will easily outperform a brand new Fiat 500. ;)

If the second number is identical, the newer architecture usually has the higher performance. So a 680 should outperform a 580.

Special case: rebranding. If GPU manufacturer still have a lot of old GPU chips on stock, instead of discarding them, they will be rebranded. Customer avoid to buy old GPU's if a new Generation is available. So a Fermi based GT 520 became a GT 620, the 6XX suggesting that it is a GPU based on the new Kepler architecture. Of course nVidia doesn't promote this fact. ;)

Maybe this clears a bit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_600_Series

:EDITH:

The link you posted, you can filter by GPU series. Set the filter to 600 and see where the GT 620 is located now. ;)

Are you sure?

Yep, even your GTX285 end up being a lot more powerful then any GTX620.

I've seen a couple of troubleshooting thread with users who own GTX6xx. Clearly, it's not a great card for this game.

Damn nvidia's naming conventions. How can a 600 be way less powerful than my 470?

Your 470 is a high-end 4xx series card, the 620 is a very low-end of the 6xx series.

A 620 can and is way less powerful than a 470 because every new series, they still have to make budget cards for people who need a card, but don't necessarily game.

As myke said earlier, read the values seperate.

Let 470 = xyy

x = series number

yy = card number

Series numbers often include new features such as new DirectX versions. They are usually incremented every half year - year.

Card Numbers represent the performance of the card. They are as follows:

Entry-level cards GT 605, GT 610, GT 620, GT 630, GT 640

Mid-range cards GT 645, GTX 650, GTX 650 Ti , GTX 660

High-end cards GTX 660 ti, GTX 670, GTX 680, GTX 690

I feel bad for the OP because the rest of his rig is quite good (minus windows 8 :p), but the video card is terrible.

My 470 is a high end desk heater. Never cold in here with it on! :)

I see, so it's the 20 of 620 that is more relevant to gaming than the 6.

It is a shame, you're right. There's another thread on the go right now from another user with a 620 and a powerful CPU. I don't have the heart to break the bad news to him.

Given that this game is much less GPU bound than many realise and more down to the HDD and CPU, the 620 must be a really rubbish card.

The GT620 is a rubbish card.

As a hint: My last graphics card was an GeForce 9800GT. 4 Years old, was more on the upper end that time (GTX and GX2 have been superior of course). From the performance data (i.e. GigaFlops per Second) this 4 year old card beats the GT620 by 500 GFlops vs. 150-250 GFlops (depending on the version of the 620).

The first number is only the technology generation used in that cards. In every generation the ranking is shown by the 2nd number. As a graphics card manufacturer you have to present the full range from low-end low-price cards to high-end 1000$ cards...

Thanks for the info guys, after all these years, I never knew that, lol and I built my computer, but goes to show how much i know,

but i dont keep up on this stuff, but thanks again, makes alot of sense.

My problem for my computer is that I have a single core, if it weren't for that I bet i could run Arma2CO at max np, I have with my current setup,

and I get a little lag, but more if I have alot of stuff going on.

I definitely suggest enough power for the computer as I had a 500 watt before and then I had upgraded to a 750watt, and that made a bit of difference,

so there are many factors that go into it too.

I dont know anything about win8, I been running with winxp 32 bit for like 5+ years now, lol

Sorry on the long reply, didn't expect to get any since nobody ever replies to me :/

What do you recommend upgrading my graphics card to?

My recommendation is a GeForce GTX 660 Ti. Very good value for a moderate price

I suggest you study this thread: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?72181-Will-my-PC-Run-this-What-CPU-GPU-to-get-What-settings-System-Specifications&p=2267411#post2267411

A lot of people talking about their experience so you surely can get some ideas on upgrade possibilities. This thread here actually got obsolete and you should continue in the linked thread. I will close for now, if you really need it reopened, drop me a PM.
