Interested in getting america's army?

Recommended Posts

I have played through all the training (except MOUT, dont want gamespy).

I really like the BRM range and the U.S weapons range.

What have people here been scoring on rifle range? I keep getting 35 and cannot seem to get even one more!

(23+ = marksman, 30+ = sharpshooter, 36+ = expert)

Here are some tips for you (actually learned from the real range while I was in)

1. you have 40 rounds and 40 shots. Thats only one round per target. If you miss a target, don't take another shot. If you decide to take the second shot (if you miss a close target, i would take another but I wouldnt suggest missing close targets biggrin.gif), you will have to pass on a distant target (I would pass on a 300m target occasionally in real life if I had to do this).

2. (obvious one here) Stay in ironsite mode the whole time and use the upper peripheral vision to sport the targets.

3. only fire between breaths (preferably after exhale) Close targets this is not necessary

4. stay calm. don't get flustered if you miss a target or two.

5. You don't want to miss any targets while prone

I thought it was pretty cool. I felt like I was back on the pop-up range in Basic smile.gif

I really like the terrain. nice graphics.

The best score i got out of many retrys was 37, it´s quite tricky and i really like the additional component of breathing influencing your aiming point.

I´m curious about bullet drop, as the BRM is shot without adjusting the rear sight in AA, and i don´t know what setting is used for real U.S. marksmanship qualification training...200m?

If U.S. BRM in RL is shot without adjusting the rear sight, what i highly assume, your aiming point would change slightly according to target distance.

For example a 300m stationary target that is shot at with a 200m rear sight adjust, would need some slightly higher aiming point than a 200m target to hit center. A 50m target, shot at with a 200m rear sight adjust would need an accordingly slightly lower aiming point to hit the same spot.

I don´t know what setting is used ingame, but i could hit the 300m targets with letting it "sit" on the front sight (normally used for targets much closer to the shooter than rear sight is adjusted for, or targets moving fast towards the shooter position), means i could hit the 300m target while aiming at the lowest cant of it. If the 200m rear sight is used, this shouldn´t be possible if bullet drop is modelled, the shot would have gone short and impacted before the target.

Apart from that the physics are great, just throw some grenades downhill in the weapon familiarisation training, looking realistic how they are tumbling and rolling down.

Also try to shoot the CO in basic rifle marksmanship, looks very good how characters drop.

In all this a nice preview of unreal warfare engine capabilities, now i´m looking even more forward to Raven Shield.

Whats nice now is that they are adding more servers. They really need them... Ive seen just a lil more than 1000 people in one area at one time. Gosh i dont think they were really very well prepared..

you're talknig about distance zeroing on the weapon correct? If I recall correctly, its 150m or 250m I think. I can't seem to remember. I dunno if bullet drop is fully implemented in the game. In real life, I would have to aim at the top of the head at 300m targets to hit center mass.

the popup targets are on timers. The close targets are only up for 2 or 3 seconds while the farther targets tend to be longer (up to 5 seconds I think). If you wait, the targets will drop after these periods of time.

I have no f!@#ing idea why I was told to come back when I'm more cautious.

This happened during weapons familiarization training, and I had M203 to 'get the feel for it'.

i thought, "Hmmm I wonder what would happen if I fire as straight up as I can."

and I fired. Nothing happened, so I reload my M203 and was about to aim for one of the targets, when suddenly I hear a boom and I'm ok, but my officer told me to return when I'm more cautious. wtf? mad.gif

U think ur having problems I cant even play MOUT Mckena servers cause the morons dont have any and if they do they are either full with bad ping or they have some with good pings but the severs dont even work.

Has anyone else been able to do other things without having to go through MOUT Mckena?

Satchel, u need to go to their stie America's Army and register there. First u choose a username and put in ur e-mail address (has to be real) then they send ya a confirmation code with a link. Click the link and then choose a password. Then itll tell ya the information u entered as a confirmation and ur good to go. Then go into the game, and put in ur username and password then it should work.

That´s what i did Jester, for some reason no confirmation e-mail is send, same happened as i tried to register with the forum for help.

When i try to re-register it says my username is already taken (of course, by me), and i already ran out of the 2 e-mail adresses my provider granted me.:(

I´ve already sent 2 mails to homelan about the issue, no response yet.

Maybe it´s my e-mail provider, gmx.net causing the trouble?

For those who can register and proceed to online gaming, some things about qualification shooting and weapon implementation if you have trouble hitting anything (taken from the faq):

Q: How come my accuracy is so low?

A: The most important thing to remember is that as long as you are moving, your accuracy will be poor. The next most important thing to remember is that you can always improve your accuracy by going into a lower posture or by bringing up your sights. Also remember that when using a sniper rifle, unless you are using the scope, your accuracy will be poor.

There are six things that affect your accuracy and recoil:

Speed

Sprinting - Cannot Fire

Fast Move - Extremely High Penalty

Slow Move - Very High Penalty

Still - None

Posture

Standing - Moderate Penalty

Crouching - Small Penalty

Prone - None

Health

Red - Large Penalty

Yellow - Moderate Penalty

Green - None

Sights

Rifles:

Sights up - BONUS: Large

Sniper Rifles:

Scope off - Very High Penalty

Scope on - BONUS: Large

Breathing - BONUS: Small

(timing your fire to your breathing)

Support (Automatic Rifles and Sniper Rifles only)

Supported - BONUS: Large

Man i find the SAW hard to fire while standing up.I have to aim at the feet below left, in order to hit the targets. But i find it easyer to go prone then hit H to extend the legs on the front of the gun.

Also i like the gernades.Like you pull out the pin, and you just hold all that you want, unless you cook the gernade by holding down the left mouse button, then tap the right mouse button, then he relises the handle, then you can only hold the gernade for 5 sec before you get blown up.Plus you can change how he throws it, like a normal throw, or just roll it.

Oh, and how come i cant hear the pop from the M16A2 when doing the first training mission. The one where you shoot the popup targets.

I also havent really notice, but is there like puffs of grass and dirt when the bullets hit the ground?Or how bout walls, will you see bullet holes?Or can i walk up to the pop up targets and see exactly where i hit the target?

there are puffs/smokes when your rifle hits ground. in first training mission, I tried shooting on the ground, and it gave out smoke.

i don't think there are bullethole though..i'll have to see in MOUT training.

no you can't walk upto targets. as soon as you leave your designated area, whistle goes off.

Oh ok.I tryed in the first training mission, to see what would happen if i shot the ground, and i didnt really see anything.I was just wondering, so maybe if im gunning someone down with the SAW, i can see where im hitting with out aiming. smile.gif

I tryed that mission, but it was so dark (you have to use night vision to complete it) that i couldnt see anything, other then the cardboard targets.

i just got back from checking it.

in first mission, when you shoot at grass or sand, you get thick black smoke.

you can also shoot at concretes, but as soon as you turn back and leave the room it disappears.

Feels a bit like Half Life: Opposing Force. It doesn't feel Gloomy enough to be a war sim. Everyone whose played OFP knows the feeling. I wish there was single player. This crap with the über-laggy servers needs to stop. mad.gif
