Guster 1 Posted November 18, 2012 (edited) I have a pretty decent gaming computer that i built a year ago that can run every game i throw at it with maxed settings, except for ARMA 2. Spec: -Gtx 480 1.5gb -Phenom ii x4 980 4.0ghz -16gb ram -1tb black. http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/5236/poopgz.png (127 kB) I play multiplier most of the time and a lot on Chenarus. My fps when in the middle of the woods is around 40-55, in cherno 15-19. and elektro is even worse. 12-15fps. Another thing i noticed with arma 2, and only arma 2, my Gpu usage is from 20-30%. I was talking to a friend about this issue and he recommended i purchase a ssd. The one i am currently looking at is an OCZ RevoDrive 3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227740 So my question is will this really help or is there just something wrong? SnowSky 12 Posted November 18, 2012 Hi and welcome to the forum! There is an own Thread related to SSDs and how different people gain performance or not. From what I read - people got better performance when it comes up to loading terrain data and objects (for example when flying over a city). I for my part have an SSD with Win 7 and ArmA2CO+RFT on it. It's hard to say if I would feel a more fluid gameplay now than before because I didn't play much before and it always went well on my computer. Perhaps you want to defragment the partition on which arma is installed - that can fulfill wonders too.
domokun 515 Posted November 18, 2012 Gotta agree with SnowSky that a simple defrag can go a long way to reducing stuttering. However I'd also add that these tweaks can also help significantly: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?85124-ArmA2-OA-%28low%29-performance-issues&p=2081466#post2081466 Let us know how you get on
jw custom 56 Posted November 18, 2012 I wouldn't say i'm getting a better performance as such after getting a SSD, but all the texture popping is gone which makes it all worth it for me, not to mention no sound from the drive :)
[frl]myke 14 Posted November 18, 2012 A SSD wont help to increase FPS, this is only done by CPU and GPU. Where it can help, it loads model data and textures faster, less obvious LOD switching and texture reloading. This might result in a subjective more fluid gameplay but objectively the FPS will not increase. With 16GB Ram you could also try with a Ramdisk. Use the search, there is a thread somewhere around here. However, whatever route you decide to go, for each already exist threads, please use these as you find them.
