Lazarus_Long 0 Posted July 3, 2002 Since Resistance is comming out soon, I figured it was time to beef up my PC with a new video card (MSI Geforce4 Ti-4200 128MB DDR) and a new sound card (Creative Audigy X-gamer). Â OFP looks and sounds absolutely awesome when I run it at 1600-1200. Â It runs smoother than ever even with all the bells and whistles maxed out. Â I am absolutely stunned by the increase in performance. Â I used to have a Kyro II - 3D Prophet 4500 64MB DDR, which was ok, but not great. One wierd problem with my new set up though.... When it becomes dark outside (in the game) The colors seem to vanish and everything looks like an old B&W Humphrey Bogart flick. Â The colors can still be seen here and there, but only if there is a light shining directly on the object. Â Think of the cute girl in the pink coat in Schindlers List. Â It looks kind of like that. I have'nt figured out what could be wrong. Â The night colors were much more vivid with the Kyro II card. My system specs are: AMD Athlon 1.33GHz 512MB PCI2100 DDR RAM Windows XP (Home Edition) 40MB Maxtor HD Geforce4 Ti-4200 128MB DDR (MSI) Â - Driver: Detonator v.29.80 Creative Sounds Audigy X-Gamer. Mister Frag 0 Posted July 3, 2002 Nothing is wrong, do not panic. You are experiencing the night vision enhancement added in V1.20 of OFP, which gives you are more accurate representation of what the human eye perceives at night -- it is supposed to look like that. Lazarus_Long 0 Posted July 3, 2002 Hmmm....Strange that all the colors were still there when I used the Kyro II card. I've been using 1.46 now for a while. Perhaps it's because the kyro did not have Hardware T&L? That must be it. I guess I'll just have to get used to that B&W thing. It doese'nt look bad, just...different from what I've been used to seeing. Ok, thanks for clearing that up for me.
Mister Frag 0 Posted July 3, 2002 You saw much more vibrant colors at night when you had the Kyro II card because it doesn't support DirectX Pixel Shader (1.0). V1.20, also known as Ultimate Upgrade 2, introduced a modified graphics engine which takes advantage of the shader for night rendering, so any card that supports this shader (such as the GeForce3 and later cards) have the B&W feel to them. kegetys 2 Posted July 3, 2002 imo. there should be an option to disable this feature, for two reasons... first being, that it doesnt (at least for me) work properly, everything is almost black & white even when they are lit up at night by a lamp, and secondly, it gives an advantage to those who dont have modern video cards in multiplayer, because they can see colors at night and others cant. Epyon9283 0 Posted July 3, 2002 That would explain why it looks like that now that I got a new video card. I think it looks better and I dont really see how it could be considered as a disadvantage.
Lt_Damage 0 Posted July 4, 2002 I am just so glad this has been cleared up! I went from a Gigabyte Geforce2 GTS 32MB to a ASUS Geforce4 Ti4600 128MB and I thought i'd gone colorblind. Thank god its finally settled.. Note: would like a little more colour..
