krypus 0 Posted September 30, 2012 Hi Everyone, I just bought ARMA 2 Combined Operations. I really enjoy this game, but I have no idea how to play this game "correctly". I'm really interested in the online co-operative play. I've seen so many youtube videos of communities/clans doing online coop missions. But, how do these work? Do I need add-ons to play this game? How do these add-ons work? And what are people playing these days? I honestly have no clue what I'm doing....
Fanatic72 181 Posted September 30, 2012 Most of the "coop" clans play with ACE+ACRE mods. ACE makes the game much more realistic and ACRE provides with realistic radio communication. Both can be found on armaholic.com. Speaking about clans. Every proper clan has a website and this forum has a part where clans have their recruitment topics. So just pick the one you think suits you and your locality best and contact them. They will help you with everything needed.
krypus 0 Posted September 30, 2012 so generally, everyone plays with different add-ons/mods in addition to ACE+ACRE? What about just normal online play? Or does it depend on certain missions?
Gunter Severloh 4087 Posted September 30, 2012 I just bought ARMA 2 Combined Operations. Excellent, Welcome to the community! and to BIS forums! I have no idea how to play this game "correctly". I'm really interested in the online co-operative play Playing "correctly" is really about understanding how coop works, so basically what happens is, a mission which ever mission you decide to play is designed to have multiple positions to choose from, which vary from mission to mission, and all missions other then the ones that come with the game are all custom made by players like you and me in the community. All you need to know is find a server that has a coop, which most mp servers are running, join the server, choose a role, which is a soldier, or whatever the mission is about, and then join, once your ingame, then you want to hit the key for your map, and read the notes there which explains what the mission is about and what you do. so generally, everyone plays with different add-ons/mods in addition to ACE+ACRE? Not everyone plays coop with ACE or Acre, My buddy and I play with COWarMod, and I44 sometimes. People play with what they wish, alot of clans/squads,a dn realism units use ACE, and Acre but they are not the only mods that all of them play. What about just normal online play? Or does it depend on certain missions? Depends on what folks want to play, funner with mods. But theres alot of missions that can be played without mods and then theres alot that require mods, all depends. Heres a good guide on multiplayer to help you out a bit. New to Multiplayer? sander 14 Posted October 1, 2012 There is no particular need to play coop with addons, as there is plenty of pure vanilla content around that can be enjoyed without using any mods. It all depends on your own preferences and those of the people you are playing with. As there is no general agreement on what constitutes correct way of playing because individual preferences vary widely what matters is that you make up yur own mind on what is enjoyable for you. My advice is to start out playing with just default content and then later decide what other mods or addons you may wish to explore. It will give you at least a solid basis of experience and a proper benchmark for the added (or decreased) value of custom content. Regards, Sander
PlacidPaul 11 Posted October 3, 2012 I have no affiliation with 7thCav, but I can vouch that their 7th Cav Domination vanilla server is a great place to learn how to play COOP, even if Domination is not your thing. I held off on playing arma2 coop until my friends joined me. Once they did, this is what we played. Just join and use the Team Status action to join a infantry group, then use group chat (switch channels with these <>). When you join admit your clueless and some should help, if not join another group. They do require you have teamspeak, so maybe download it, but if your not flying (which is only for experienced) it's probably not necessary.
cjgsicknote 10 Posted October 3, 2012 I'll second that motion placidPaul. 7th cav is indeed a great place to get to grips with co op. I often find myself playing with those guys and more often than not enjoy some excellent tactical battles. Teamspeak isn't necessary unless your playing as a pilot. Failing that though there are many other servers and clans that welcome new players so just get out there, have a good look around and enjoy what is the best game out there.
