Help me choose between ARMA2 or wait for ARMA3

Recommended Posts

Hi, seems like I am back with the BI military shooter after playing only the original OFP back in the days. The reason for me to go back was mainly discovering the DayZ and Rearmed2 mods through the internet which I look forward to play.

My question to you is whether you advice me to buy ARMA2:CO now or wait for ARMA3 which is soon to be released?

Problem with ARMA3 would be my PC specs (Intel core duo 3Ghz, 4 GB RAM, GeForce 430 GT) which I understood will be unlikely to let me play ARMA3.

Problem with ARMA2 would be that I'd better wait for ARMA3's DayZ mod which I understand is being remade for that, while somehow updating my PC.

And a couple more questions:

Is Rearmed 2 containing the entire OFP1 campaigns?

Am I able to install DayZ with the Steam Arma2:CO version?

ArmA3 isn't even close to being released, so shouldn't even be a concern at this point.

Rearmed is just the base OFP, not the expansions and additional campaigns. But it's $5 so who cares? :) It plays a LOT differently than ArmA2 though.

DayZ runs fine on Steam CO, and has it's own standalone version coming Soonâ„¢.

Your PC will run A2 fine. Probably A3 as well, but you'll want to upgrade on principle anyway. :)

CO is $32. That's half price for a shooter these days, it's a no brainer to get ArmA2 CO now and get all of it.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Isn't Rearmed2 a free community made mod?

Ooh! That, yeah! Superb mod. I thought you were talking about Cold War Assault, which is OFP rebranded as an ArmA game and compatible with Windows 7 that was released last year.

Buy Arma2CO, you'll be waiting til 2013 for Arma3. Also theres already a thread for this question.

Your serious right?

With those specs should have no issues, but to make sure run the test:

pick Arma3 from the list and hit the button , it will analyze your computer and give you a pass or fail, and then any suggestions.

Thanks. Yes, I am serious, the Arma3 requirements are freakin' scary and my FPS are quite low while I'm in Arma2 dense woods already. Trying to get that application link you submitted to work correct, I'm getting some java error at the moment.

I already purchased Arma2:CO and I'm having a good time on DayZ, I already have unique gameplay stories to remember. I convinced 2 friends to get it also but they went more into Arma2 domination and can't get them off of there for now.

lol domination, it's a good mission for beginner since it concentrate on coop between players. As an infantry, seeing an A10 doing a bombing run is an awesome sight. Get arma 3 when you have a better rig and like most of us. We upgrade our rig based on BIS game release XD
