cotoi 1 Posted August 16, 2012 This may sound stupid specialy for veterans but my problems is this: I am new to the game and I got it only to get ready for arma3, and I don't know any veteran from this game who could help me. I want to upgrade my videocard and I know all specifications for top video cards but I want to ask if this videogame is optimized for Nvidia or for ATI. BF3 runbetter on Nvidia, other gamse like Black Light run better on ATI. Did anyone know for what GPU technology is this game optimized? (Please don't give me advice about price/quality and so on I work as an IT consultant so I know what is on the market right now, I don't know the game.) Thank you. BasileyOne 10 Posted August 16, 2012 generally, it perform better on NVidia, than on AMD, but i pick latest for how it LOOK[on them] instead. especially LOVE difference in AF quality on decent GFX settings. try put/eforce AFx16 on Chernarus island and do some bycicle riding thru autumn/fall ;-) war never so BEATIFUL, then ;-) so basically, you can't pick "apple vs orange" GPU's even for this game, TOO. Leon86 13 Posted August 16, 2012 You should have posted in the sticky thread for this kind of thing, but if you have the money I'd go for a gtx670. 660Ti reviews seem positive too but I dont know, 2GB on a 192bit bus just doesnt fit properly, performance might cripple if you use over 1.5GB. Maybe wait for a 3GB model, or just keep the settings modest.
BasileyOne 10 Posted August 17, 2012 (edited) nothing perfect. generally, fillrate[and ease to handle complex/huge setup/scenes, they able]of NVdia GPU's pack lot more for Arma2. also "lot of tiny/simple shaders/pipelines" rather than "smaller number of ultra-powerful/effient shaders/exec", lot easier to saturate both on application and driver-level. personally, i would suggest 6Gb versions of 7970's you can find on market. or [preferably]wait for 8970, sheduled for 2013/Q1. both Nvidia and AMD wasn't provide anything reallly innovative/attractive in last three-four years, sadly. Robster 11 Posted August 17, 2012 (edited) EDIT: I read your an IT consultant... afaik there won't be any major difference since some guys claim that ATi cards look better thah NV.... but I haven't seen any evidence -benchmark, performance, technical specs, whatever- about it so far... Then I guess any high end GPU should be fine running over an according rig... Ahora sÃ, saludines! Edited August 17, 2012 by Robster
domokun 515 Posted August 17, 2012 Rather than base your decision on peoples' opinions, how about some a review that benchmarks different cards: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2012/07/31/gainward-geforce-gtx-670-2gb-phantom/3 For what it's worth, I picked up a 7850 a few months back for less than €200 and easily overclocked (using AMD's own Overdrive utility) to 7870 speeds.
