Ofp at 1600x1200

Recommended Posts

I just got a beautiful 21 inch monitor, when I try running OFP though, I get atrocious FPS, sometimes down to 7 fps.

The res is 1600x1200.

Which vid card can run OFP smoothly at 1600x1200?

I can afford a gf4 ti4400, but should I save up for a 4600? Will it make any noticable difference? Will the 4400 suck at that res?

I have a Radeon 64mb DDR

an AMD athlon 1200

and 640 megs of sdram DIMMS.

At 1024x768 on previous 15in monitor, I got fairly good FPS except when rendering 100 explosions at the same time. (shilka)

I can play OFP at 1600x1200x32 on a overclocked GeForce3 Ti200, provided I don't turn on FSAA. I get about 40 FPS at that resolution.

I would expect the full-blown (non-MX) GeForce4 cards to do substantially better, and even allow playing with FSAA at that resolution. I think the CPU will become the bottleneck in your system regardless of which GeForce4 you put into it.

I wouldn't expect to be playing missions with really large numbers of AI units on the screen, especially vehicles.

How does your system do right now with the Battlefields mission? I assume you measure the FPS with FRAPS?

Well go for one of the Gainward Golden Sample Geforce 4 Ti4600 cards if you can afford and overclock it smile.gif

that should get you reasonable FPS (I don't think FSAA would be appropriate as you card will struggle to provide that facility at that resolution)

until Matrox bring out their Parhelia card or the Geforce 5 or even the R300from ATI - you may not get high FPS with full AA on and huge resolutions.

the CPU will not be the bottlenck it will become the AGP bus

An Athlon XP 2200+ (using the T'Bred 0.13u core) would be a perfect partner for the high end/future cards, or even an Intel P4 Northwood 2.6 clocked to 3ghz ish

(I think)

I don't have FRAPS, but I have a "feel for low FPS" smile.gif

I used to play counter strike on my 300 mhz, I consistently got a 7-10 FPS "measured with net graph" . BAttlefield mission does OK on my comp (1024x768 15 in monitor) It gets around 30 frames.

So, what do you guys advise me to do?

I could get a geforce3 ti200 and OC it, and also get a nice athlon XP while I'm at it.

Or should I get a gf4 ti4400?

Maybe I should wait and get an athlon thoroughbred?

The GF4 Ti4200 seems to be the best buy these days, and some are reaching or exceeding Ti4600 speeds. I would probably get that, and save some money for a faster CPU down the line.

You may want to download FRAPS so you can get a more objective idea of your frame rate.

How do I, with my radeon now, be able to play OFP. EVEN AT 1024x768, the frame rates are just not working on my 21 inch monitor. How do I make it go smooth again, I can't wait to buy that new card smile.gif I don't need a huge resolution.

Search The FAQ for "lag" and see if anything in the first two matching FAQ items helps resolve your problem.

His problem is not lag, it's just that his videocard (which is relatively old) isn't fast enough to offer good framerates at such a high resolution. Upgrading will help wink.gif

if you were running a pure DDR system you would have no problems, my old A7V266 1.4 ghz 266 with 512 DDR ram and Radeon 32 meg DRR had no problems with 1600x1200x32 except in the sniper scope

even a SDR system might give you a bottle neck with any of the top DDR Vid cards

I dont see any lag with the radeon 7500 or 8500 on any DDR systems over 1.2 ghz

DDR ram would help? Well, I seem to have exactly the same type of mobo and pretty much the same processor, just yours is more of a power hog.

Isn't it expensive and buggy, or am I just thinking about the early days.

The A7V266 mobo supports pc2100 bus for DDR sdram right?

It doesn't seem expensive either, just a 100 bucks.

Is kingston RAM good?

AvonLady- at least read the thread for god's sake. I've already looked in the FAQ and it offered no help.

Then: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG?

Seemingly, I have a top of the line card everyhting is fine and dandy and everyone else has it silky smooth with a worse card and same resolution.

Should I reinstall windows?

I have a very fast hardrive.

I have a pretty fast CPU.

I have tons of memory.

I have a pretty good vid card.

I have a cable modem.

I have windows XP (which has given me quite a bit of grief in the past month)  confused.gif

WHy is it lagging? Someone, inform me.

In half life, I got an average of 40 fps (at 800x600) when someone at another board with a geforce 2 MX gets it at a constant 100 FPS at 1024x768. And he has the same t-bird and less memory.

WHAT'S GOING ON?
