Aculaud 0 Posted June 24, 2002 This will most likely get closed no different than the others for a multitude of reasons, so i hope the mod that does it actually takes the time to read this. I'm not going to PM any one mod, because i think all of them need to see this with the forum members present. This is getting out of hand. Threads are being closed for absolutely no reason, and i think it should stop. I dont think its up to you as a moderator to decide what a "worth while" topic of dicussion is. If its obviously spam, or obviously inappropriate, then you have no choice but to act - its your job, and i get that. But, as an example, closing my thread about nit-picking ghost recon because it was changing to another subject was definitely harsh. So what if they were all talking about something else? The have to do it somewhere, this is a forum for christs sake. I think youre missing a very big part of this whole subject. This being a forum, people come here to talk. Its what it was meant to do. And as such, people dont just come here to ask Will Resistance mark the end of OFP updates? or How do i get my soldier to sit down? This is a gathering place for everyone who enjoys playing the game. And its also a place to meet people and socialize with fellow gamers. But when you start doing things like closing peoples threads because you dont think its a worthy topic for this place, and then hide behind "We're just trying to create a fun atmosphere where people can discuss OFP ", you take away the fun factor. If this place is going to be fun, then there has got to be some point of balance between people posting what they want, and moderators doing their jobs. I agree, an off topic section is an unnecissary blessing to have here, being that it is one place we dont have to talk about OFP all the time. But was it Bohemia Interactive Studios and Codemasters that put it here, or OFPN?
Akira 0 Posted June 24, 2002 I just wanted to post for once in a topic that will be closed....with out making a statement pro or against....
Aaron Kane 0 Posted June 24, 2002 I dont mean this as an attack against anyone in particular, but it seems that perhaps there are too many moderators now. Each one has their own idea of an appropriate thread, and thats probably why so many are being closed or deleted. Thats my view on the situation, but I'm not saying its the right one. Assault (CAN) 1 Posted June 24, 2002 I am not afraid to say it, Aculaud, I totaly agree with you. Topics in this forum go off-topic all the time, that's just the nature of discussion and thats why it's called an 'off-topic' forum in the first place. I think that Ex-Ronin was definately being harsh when he closed down your thread. </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">I dont think its up to you as a moderator to decide what a "worth while" topic of dicussion is.<span id='postcolor'> Exactly. Spam is Spam, and everyone here at the forum knows what it is, I usually ignore spam threads or spamming as much as I can. When the mods lock a spam thread I have no problem with it. When they lock a thread where there was a perfectly fine discussion going on, I can't help but feel a little angry. Just because someone is a mod, it shouldn't mean that they have some kind of 6th sense as to the 'relevance' of a discussion. This is an off-topic forum, nothing here is relevant anyway. I have never spoken out against moderation before, but in light of what has been happening, I felt I had to say something. So there.... Tyler
Harnu 0 Posted June 24, 2002 I tried posting something about denoir after he locked that thread about him. Â But he deleted it twice. Â Anyway, I PM'ed mods and talk to them and it was all sorted out. Â I would have like to do this in an open thread, but it would have just gotten deleted. Â And when I PM'ed mods asking why they closed a certain topic, I nearly lost my posting privlages. Â And these are the nw guys, even in other forums new mods always seem to get lock happy for the first few weeks. Â Just give em time, they wil calm down and stop locking for stupid reasons. EveronVetsAgainstTheWar 1 Posted June 24, 2002 I am in fulll concurence with Aculaud. The moderators are ban happy. There's too many. It seems as if the new ones are doing it just because they can. Its out of hand.
Warin 0 Posted June 24, 2002 I dont know what forums you are reading, but I am not seeing threads closed uneccesarily. I've seen a lot of threads closed that are harping on 'mods this and mods that' when it was clearly stated in the first threads that the way to resolve your issues was to PM a mod. Also, in your PM's, try being polite. Â I've never been threatened with revocation og posting privledges after any PM I may have made. Basically, before you go off on a rant, ask yourself if you would be offended by the rant. Â Just because a mod is a mod doesnt mean they are superhuman... if you are impolite or pushy...there will likely be a reason that they get bitchy. I like the forums. I dont see anything wrong. Â Yeah..the mods are being strict when it comes to spam threads...but you know what? I dont mind. Â I am sick of straining through spam to get the meat of a discussion. Â Your thread was cool Aculaud..but then it did wander into something else...and so the original reason was gone. Â To me, that's when it's time for the thread to move on. Duke_of_Ray 0 Posted June 24, 2002 Maybe the number off moderators should be reduced and the ones left should be giving guidlines to go by.

It just seems like it because most of the people that are active as mods also post a lot here in Off Topic. The mods need to approve new accounts, moderate, and still do their own posting PLUS everything else they might enjoy as human beings. These guys are volunterring their time to try to make things enjoyable for everyone. And having been on a few unmoderated lists... I can tell you that this place is a joy. You dont know what you've got till it's gone...
Placebo 29 Posted June 24, 2002 For the record I have read everything you've said. For the record nothing has changed, if you have a complaint/thought/suggestion/praise/rant, send it to one/all of us in PM, I'm not going to keep on repeating that There are not too many moderators at all, simply it's a time when we're all reasonably active, Denoir has left for a couple of days, I've got a shit load of college work to do, things like that can quickly leave it down to only 1 or 2 moderators over 24 hours which is a lot of work on them. Ex-Ronin has been a mod for 1 day, Denoir and Gimbal have been mods for around 9 days, I've been a mod for prolly 18 months or so, see a theme there? Please give the guys a chance to slip into the role, it's bloody hard to get used to right away, and it's even worse when forum users are slagging you off left right and centre in the public forum, it may feel like you're being constructive, but combined with getting to grips with things it makes life very tough for them. I've told all the new mods, if anyone gives them too much grief to let me know, I'm used to being the bad guy on here, I certainly won't have any qualms taking action that I feel is necessary to protect my mods and to allow them to do the excellent job I am confident they're capable of doing. 3 new mods in a week means 3 new guys who're learning the ropes at the same time, it may seem easy but it's not, trust me on that, we have a private forum and we discuss all your complaints/thoughts/praises in there and we try to see what we can do about them, you PM your questions/praise/complaints to us and we raise them in there and sort them out, IMO the best way to resolve things. Please now make this the last of it, as I've said so many times we will always listen to you guys, but do it in the appropriate way please, and we feel that way is PM to any/all of us mods. Closing this now, any similar threads will result in temp post restrictions for whoever starts it, perhaps not nice but who said I was nice
