tusing 1 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Hello, everyone. This is the first time I have ever played the Arma 2 game (thanks to DayZ). I would like to report that I am having horrible textures. I get better graphics in Minecraft. System Specs: ATI Radeon 7970 (3GB) AMD FX-series 8-core processor 16GB RAM 1050p Display So as you see, my specs are not low. I can run even The Witcher 2 maxed out with ubersampling on, or Crysis 1 and 2... it's just this game... Here are the pictures. Anyone have the solution to this? http://imgur.com/h7AmL,uvmND,UceMx,hsVPf,PZfnn,UgXDq,vzN6w,E0Y6F,khShw,W85ox,6wDMa,dfIFa,G7Q73 The above pictures have my graphics usage during the time I captured the pictures, the pictures of the textures, and the menus. For some reason, I do not have the "default" or "very high" video memory and texture options. I used to run off of a hard drive, and I am using an SSD now- no difference. If you notice in the above album I posted, the "You Are Dead" sign flickers epileptically, and in-game, the mouse wheel menu and helicopter status bar also flicker at extremely high strobe-like frequencies. I have no clue why this is happening. My config: (is there something wrong with the VRAM? Remember, I have 3GB in my card! http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7970/Pages/radeon-7970.aspx#3 (click "specifications") I have the latest drivers. language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=100000; Resolution_Bpp=32; Windowed=0; Resolution_W=1680; Resolution_H=1050; refresh=60; winX=16; winY=32; winW=800; winH=600; winDefW=800; winDefH=600; Render_W=1680; Render_H=1050; FSAA=3; postFX=5; GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=2; HDRPrecision=32; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=2147483647; nonlocalVRAM=1108189184; vsync=1; AToC=0; FXAA=0; PPAA=0; PPAA_Level=0; sceneComplexity=180000; ---------- Post added at 11:17 ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 ---------- Also, whenever I go look at a flare at night or the sun in the day, my screen goes into another epileptic strobe effect (multiple times per second). Baraka 10 Posted August 4, 2012 First you should delete your config.cfg and start A2. It will create a new one. Set all to "very High", then change your Video memory to "default", Set your view distance to 3500m and have a look for your 3D-reselution. Should be at least 100%. That is some basic stuff to avoid trouble. It may help or not :p
Robster 11 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) eee well, in that picture we are seeing low res pictures, which means that you are seeing lite version of some available DLC -which is paid- afaik this happens with some arma2free content -not so sure-, BAF, PMC and ACR. nothing related to your pc... those are blurry cause you haven't paid for better ones yet (!) EDIT: If those pics are from Chernarus, then do some search regarding AToC=0 to avoid watercolor drawings in game Edited August 4, 2012 by Robster
maturin 12 Posted August 4, 2012 Your computer isn't streaming the textures from disk correctly. Those aren't just bad textures but low LOD models meant to be viewed at distance, too low in quality for the LITE Chernarus version.
Ivan911 1 Posted August 4, 2012 Wow that is horrible :D I have learned that when things go this bad in Arma 2 there is only one thing to do. And that is reinstallation. If you opt for uninstall clean registry delete all arma files if there are some left (delete your arma user files to after you back up them). You did note mentioned what version of arma you have, Steam or not? Before new install update your graphic and other drivers. When installing make sure you disable antivirus and install with admin rights. And after all that you will never no mater what hardware you have have a game that looks like Crysis. I feel your pain. Mine config is similar to yours GTX680,16GB,i7-2600K and i have some glitches that should en be there and when in MP things go frantic mine fps drops to 30 so you are not alone :) Lets all hope Arma 3 change this. ---------- Post added at 18:34 ---------- Previous post was at 18:24 ---------- Buy Arma X: Anniversary Edition it is cheap considering what you get. And stop playing DayZ and explore the game there is are more to Arma.
metalcraze 290 Posted August 4, 2012 Wasn't SceneComplexity parameter obsolete since OFP? What is it doing in your config? Your config looks like a mess consisting of obsolete params from 1.60 meeting 1.62. Just delete that config file and start the game again.

mrwhitby 1 Posted August 10, 2012 (edited) I have the exact same issue! What i found it is the ATOC switch that to Arma 2 tree only the glass seems to cause the 'LITE' Textures. Edited August 10, 2012 by MrWhitby
Colossus 2 Posted August 10, 2012 It's really strange that you don't have 'Very High' or 'Default' under Video Memory. It's probably the cause of this but it's not the source. Just to iron out a couple of things. 1 a. Where did you get ArmA? Steam, Sprocket, DVD (boxed), etc.? b. If it was non-Steam: what was the original patch version before you patched, and how did you patch it up to current 1.62? 2 Is this occurring when you launch the game without mods as well? 3 a. Aside from @DayZ, what is used along @DayZ when you start up the game? b. If it's a beta patch, what version is it and do you by any chance use a RC (release candidate) patch? 4 Could you provide a picture of the video settings too? EDIT: Is it payed version of ArmA 2 or ArmA 2: Free?
