Weird Auto Alt-Tab Problem

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

So I've been having this problem since a while now, I've been searching the forums and googling like crazy the past few days, there has been threads about that but none that solved my issue, this is the only thing I have left to do and I hope to get the solution for it. ;)

The Problem: When I play ArmA 2/ArmA 2 OA, I can play for more or less 7-8 minutes, then my game just alt-tabs to desktop, I've disabled Aero from the games property's, and now it just goes to a black screen, the only solution I got was to do Shift and - key at same time, sure it works, but after the same time amount, it alt-tabs again, sometimes I was getting a Grey Screen that would just freeze my monitor and I had to restart my computer, other time's I get the "Blue Screen Of Death". I remember at some points there was a message saying that my Graphics card crashed but has recovered. Also, it doesn't happen when I stay in the same area without moving around too much, but as soon as I start walking around and going to different places, it happens again.

I have no clue when the problem started to happen but it is very frustrating. I've tried so many things, and I can't seem to find the right solution yet. Any help will be highly appreciated since I really enjoy playing ArmA. :o

Sincerely,

Alan

P.S.: I have the Steam Version :D

What heat should my GPU

Around 70 degrees Celsius under load is good. If it goes significantly higher, then

- check if cooler works

- check for dust/dirt in the cooler and clean it if necessary

- check the airflow in your case. Make sure the CPU cooler gets fresh air from somewhere.

ctrl -shift- minus and type flush. fixes my issues when the display driver crashes.

@SnR I'm tired of always doing that, it annoys the biscuit out of me, especially when I'm flying.

@ProfTournesol I'm gonna monitor it next Time I play and make sure to post an image on here.

During Gameplay:

So no problem with overheating (considering you waited long enough). Do you have similar BSOD while doing other things (such as downloading big files...) or only with this game ?

No, it's only with this game. I don't know what to do anymore, I never had that problem before, ever, I could play perfectly fine.

I have this same problem.. it's been happening for awhile now and I just couldn't find a solution..

Even when I post the problem, no-one seems to have an answer. I have this one problem with this game only. I fly very demanding flight sims and have no graphics issues or freezes when playing those.

I just can't work out what is the problem..

try uncheck back boxes you turned on in "Compatibility" tab of shortcut properties of game, meant under "disabled Aero from the games property's", cuz its causes excetly described effect otherise under Vista/Win7.

in case if you seriously offended by Aero impact - try disable Desktop Manager service[tweak, remain, recommend by MSDN advisors for devs, because huge footprint, btw] and Themes service.

you also can try "-noPause" switch too.

AMD VPU recover effect/event, you described above can happen, aside overheating because kernel-level issues/reasons, like unstable driver[did you use WHQL/final AMD Catalyst ?], malware of any kind and etc. reasons

The only workaround I have is to use the 'flush' command to get back into the game and get it to work, but it's still not a solution to the problem I'm afraid. :(

Yes my video is set to default, I shall also mention that it didn't happen when I first got my new graphics card, it started happening maybe 2 weeks later..

Did you try to change your video card drivers (reverse back or install a new one ?). BTW, are you sure you didn't install some new program or devices (AV, etc.) when the trouble starts to occur ?

What do you mean by new program or Devices?, and I can't revert back or get a new one, Old card is gone and don't have the budget for a new one..

I mean :

(1) Did you install something new (anti-virus, new devices such as a joystick or whatever, etc.) shortly before the problem occurs ?

(2) You video card is using a driver (like any peripherals), and sometimes using more recent ones (or like me, older ones) solves some problem.

I see, so you are telling me when you downgraded your graphics card, it started to work better then it used to? If so, can you please tell me how to downgrade to a previous version.
