Gamevoice, ofp and xp

Recommended Posts

hallo,

using Gamevoice as voice-over-net utility(nice product with OK voicelag and grouping of ppl in-chat). However, I can't get it to work within the game, ie starting a chat session, launching OFP, all is nice. As soon as I start a game or join a multiplayer game, voice comms drops. The in-game voice thingy works great, but I would really like to use Gamevoice instead...

running XP Pro, Gamevoice 1.5, SB Live! 5.1 w/ latest drivers (both from MS and Creative, tried both).

my friend, running win98, has no probs whatsoever. Voice comms works great in-game. Strange.

tried starting each/both game and gamevoice SW in win98 mode, no luck with that (known workaround for example Rogue Spear, must launch game in 98 compatible mode).

Anyone else recognize this slightly irritating feature? wink.gif

I have not tried re-installing OFP and *not* running the sound test wizard, might try that... confused.gif

thanks in advance, cheers,

//Firren

oh, and to fill in the techhead stuff:

- game latest version 1.46

- Geforce 3 w/ drivers nVidia 27.52

- AMD XP1700+

- 256 Mb DDR

- A7M266 mobo w/ bios 1.007 (on-board sound disabled)

neither CPU or graphics card overclocked (coward, I know tounge.gif )

cheers

Which version of OFP are you testing this with?

The official versions use DirectPlay, and there may be a conflict between OFP and the GameVoice software, both of which will want to use the microphone and DirectPlay API.

The V1.60 beta has the option of using a straight Winsock implementation, but it also doesn't have VON support, because the VON feature came courtesy of DirectPlay.

I've got the GameVoice hardware, but haven't tried using the GameVoice software with OFP, because few people have it and if you are playing on-line with strangers, you'd be left out.

Someone had a similar problem a week or two back, different external voice app but sounded like a similar problem, solution was something like remove mic and run sound setup again, or you could also try deleting the Flashpoint.cfg file, I would guess that it is the file which includes your voice config stuff.......

I can't even get the defult one to work, and I tried deleting the Flashpoint.cfg file.

I tried to set up the voice feature from the setup icon: The sound

(Hardware-Test-Wizard) says my sound hardware cannot play sounds. This doesn't make sense because I have one of the latest Creative gaming cards with the latest "drivers" It is an Audigy Gamer EAX Gaming card.

I have the same EXACT problem ...

I have tried (4) Different sound cards and all the basic settings.

Deleted Flashpoint.cfg and re-ran the Preferences Util ... no luck.

I have DirectX8.1 and trying to get OFP 1.46 to run with Gamevoice, under Win2k PIII 866, 512MB ram.

It all works great until .. like you said "I join a Muliplayer game or a dedicated server"

If I [ALT]-TAB to desktop Gamevoice starts working again ...

Please help .. I know of (6) others in my squad that have this same problem.

It is an issue with OFP and the VON .. not sure what, but its annoying and frustrating and I cant seem to get any answers anywhere ... oh and this also happens with Roger Wilco as well, I just tried it to see if maybe it was a GameVoice issue.

I hate buggin the guys at BIS, since they are so busy with more important stuff.

smile.gif Here is a site that may help with some of these problems.  http://forums.gameclubcentral.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=tech

I had the same problem with BattleCom and XP.  It can be solved by using "Alternate playback and record" setting in coms setup.

I also had a problem in that I could not independly control coms and game volume.  I solved it in this manner.

BattleCom Setup For Separate Game and Coms Volume Control

Enable onboard sound system on mother board.

Connect onboard line-out to line-in of your addon sound card.

Select onboard system for play back in BattleCom.

You can use either your onboard or sound card for recording.

Connect mike to the system you choose and select in BattleCom.

Now you can independitly control volume of game and BattleCom.

Note, that under windows volume control, Options, Properties

you can select which sound system you want to set sliders on.

This works great on my system and voice sound quality on BattleCom

is improved over using the alternate playback and record modes.

Asus mother board with AMD 1.7XP

512 meg. ram

Sound Blaster 5.1 Live

CFS2 and OFP games

To fix the "sound hardware cannot play sounds" problem, reduce the sound acceleration level to one notch below maximum, then run the Voice Setup in the OFP Preferences again. It will now successfully complete. Once that is done, you can set the acceleration level back to maximum again.

ok that hardware-test-wizard does not work properly with the Audigy, (I know as I hav fixed the problem)

goto advanced setting for your sound and turn down the Hardware acceleration thingy to the first or second notch then run the sound wizard, (should work) now go back to the Advanced setting tab and turn accelertion back up. now you should have no problems.

ok someone already said this but hey I am here to try and help smile.gif

FYI, the problem is not with the voice setup program, but the drivers for the Audigy.
