Change/Fix Serial

Recommended Posts

My game is telling me that my serial is incorrect. I have the Steam version of ArmA 2 and a retail copy of OA. My physical media has gone missing, so I only have the key. I've managed to acquire the game files and have gotten it installed and patched, but I need to find a way to input my serial number. I've found the key entry in the registry, but have no idea how to change it to the proper hex code. Any assistance here or am I out of luck?

The only way to add a key is while installing the game. For obvious reasons we do not provide any instructions on how to 'hack' the registry in order to add a key.

I better don't ask from where you got the game files...

When you installed the game, then you are asked for the key at some point. There you could have inserted yours. The original game does not come with any key set already.

My suggestion is: Reinstall ArmA2 from Steam where you purchased it and either obtain a legal replacement disc for OA from your local distributor - or go and find the disc. After all it's not such a small thing.

I'm playing games since the C64 days and in all the many years I never lost a manual, key or installation media. Not a single one. It's completely out of my mind how people can lose such things. It's really not much work to store all these things in a lockable part of your room and use it only when necessary. All it needs is some will to keep stuff organized. ;)

Others (like me) just have random piles of stuff spread around different rooms/houses/cities, and looking for stuff is done in a similar fashion to DayZ. :p

Anyway, the hex stuff in your registry is encrypted or something, so you can only take hex codes from already installed games and switch those between windows installations. (Like i have done many times, since i am lazy and dont like reinstalling)

Converting from the serial to the proper hex code is impossible, as stated above.

Lol pirate much?

No? I paid for the game just like anyone else, thanks.

As far as inputting my serial upon install, I have tried this, but SecuROM tells me that my serial is invalid (which it obviously is not).

Contact Placebo and ask him to check your key(s).

Sent him a message. As for now, whenever I attempt to join a server, it'll let me in momentarily and then kick me saying that my Battleye GUID is invalid.

EDIT: To save myself the headache, I just went ahead and bought OA again via Steam for $19.99. I noticed in the few moments of play beforehand that the game runs much smoother for some reason, so hopefully that'll ease the pain in my wallet. Looking forward to DayZ as well.
