New to BI Tools and would like some guiding

Recommended Posts

Hello, im new to the fourms and would like to start on moddelling. basic modding for example with the BI Tools.

I think i have the right files to modify ARMA 2 OA,(because it mentions arma I and Arma II so i just wanted to make sure)the URL of the BI Tools that i downloaded is http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6820

I play ARMA 2 OA standalone and ive seen a limited amount of mods, units, skins for the standalone edition(i know, i want to get the orginal too, but its not in the stores in my town) so i would like to learn some basics of modifying models textures, onto some arma 2 oa models. for example i have seen these packs http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8860 which looks very good, but i cant use them since it requires the orignal, so i want to learn, or someone could teach me to convert thoughs textures and/or models to arma 2 oa without having to require the orignal arma 2. another thing i would like to learn is how to turn them into replacement packs. I have no knowledge to modding Arma 2 OA in anyway, but i know how to put them in the right place, as addons. and ive got a question that i would like to get around to figuring out, you've probably seen or used the M113 smoke Grenades that are in the drivers position, and they hit the ground, and deploy smoke instantly, does anyone in the community know how to or if theres a addon out there to turn the normal smoke grenades, hand held and the 40mm Grenade shells, to do the same thing, Deploy on impact?

So i would like to learn how to use the BI Tools(if theres a tutorial out there, or if someone can help me do specific things) and convert these packs to work with ARMA 2 OA standalone:

XDF DESCAM Units

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=7793

USMC Variety Pack Units

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8860

(also i would like to have add a small modification to this pack, one set of soldiers to have the 3 tone desert, with woodland vests, around the 2003 style US marines)

Australian SPecial Air Service Units

1. you are not allowed to alter any 3rd party work done by other people without express permission from their part. That goes for all the links you posted and require A2:CO, not only OA. Case of point, those files most likely have texture besides config dependency with A2.

2. you are allowed to have create replacement packs. It is not all that hard, just need to write a proper inheritance config and replace the default p3d. There are examples in forms of existing replacement configs.

most importantly, you are using the wrong version of BI tools. You should be having those: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/BI_Tools_2.5

PS. I thought it would of been okay to edit them if it was only for private use and not uploaded anywhere or distributed?

No, as has been said many times in the forums, modifying the original files even for personal use is frowned on by the community.

90% chance you can do everything you want with just your own textures and a "replacement config".

By the way, a replacement config doesn't actual replace the original authors addon, it simply copies it and applies your preferences.
