doveman 7 Posted April 6, 2012 I'd finely tuned OA/CO and had it working nicely at around 2000-3000 Visibile distance but I recently was playing a chopper mission so upped it to around 6000 for that. Then I forgot to reduce it and started a Battlefield LAN game and it was unplayably jerky right at the start inside the compund. I'd recently installed GameBooster so Alt-tabbed out and put it into Boost mode and was delighted that it got rid of all the jerkiness, so now I can play ground missions with 6000 visible distance as well. I haven't got round to measuring the FPS yet, but it seems fine to me, so I just wanted to share this tip in case it helps others. All Gamebooster does is stop some services and clean the RAM, so I'm not sure which services being stopped gives the boost but I don't really care. I like that it lets me restart all the services with one click as well, rather than having to mess around in Services turning them off/on manually.

doveman 7 Posted April 8, 2012 I really should do some fps tests as I've got plenty of results from before when I was tweaking it. Anyway, I'll post my graphics settings so you can see what I'm using: Visibility: 6175 Quality Preference: Very High 3D and Interface Resolution: 1920x1080 Texture Detail: Very High Video Memory: Default Anisotropic Filtering: Very High Antialiasing: Disabled Terrain Detail: Very Low Object Detail: Normal Shadow Detail: High HDR Quality: Normal Post Process Effects: Very Low Interface Size: Normal Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Vsync: Enabled and from the cfg: AToC=7; PPAA=3; PPAA_Level=2; Windowed=0; FXAA=0;

My ATI 6970, worked incredibly bad with default vram, with very high it was fine.
doveman 7 Posted April 8, 2012 Apparently setting Video Memory to Default lets it use as much VRAM as the card has, whilst the other settings restrict it (I don't recall the numbers but Very High might be 1GB, whereas I have a 2GB card).

Damn ati cards, 1 works properly another dont.

I have 2x6970 and have the exact same behaviour using the "Default" memory setting so you are not alone.
MavericK96 0 Posted April 10, 2012 What would be good is some actual benchmarks with GameBooster on vs. off.

rob151515 10 Posted April 10, 2012 lol man, so actually you have not much of benefit using 2x atis compared ty my single 6970? I do get better frame rates using both in crossfire as opposed to a single GPU - I just wish I could use the "Default" setting as I don't think the full amount of VRAM is being utilized. I get a frame rate drop when I look through the scope which usually lasts a few seconds before it rights itself and I can't put objects or terrain on anything greater than normal/high... doveman 7 Posted April 13, 2012 Having checked with FRAPS, I'm not sure Gamebooster is making much difference now! When I start a MP game (by myself) on Battlefield 3 A2 CTI, it's extremely jerky at the start in the bunker as I turn around and this persists for a while, so I was alt-tabbing out and running Gamebooster and by the time I got back to the game it was better but this is probably just because it's had time to sort itself out, not because of Gamebooster. Whether I run at 2000 or 6000 visibility though and with or without GameBooster, I get between 20-30 FPS once it's settled down, but after I die and respawn it's more like 11 FPS! Strangely it doesn't feel like 11 FPS though and seems fairly playable. I suspect the server part of the game is bogging my PC down, so I'll try and test on a SP map to see what happens. I do want to run 2-player LAN games though, so I'll have to try overclocking my CPU to get a bit more power.
LeadingCrosshair 10 Posted April 14, 2012 I think its 8-10 frames when overclocked I've got a 955 but with a 5770. I usally go with 3.8 and it stops alot of the stutter but im also running 1920x1200 lol
metalcraze 290 Posted April 14, 2012 If it's jerky at the start that means your HDD is not fast enough. Or that you need to defragment it. If you use a lot of mods - defragging is a must.

Ah thanks, I'll do that then. I'll have to move some stuff to another partition temporarily, as my Games partition is almost full!
doveman 7 Posted April 14, 2012 Well it helped somewhat in the bunker at the start, which isn't jerking all the over the place now, but it still jerks when I go outside and turn around at first, even at 2000 visibility. Battlefield 3 A2 CTI seems to give me 25-30 FPS until I die, and after I respawn it drops. Before overclocking and defragging it was around 11 FPS and now it's around 15-19 FPS, so has improved a bit but not a lot. Doesn't seem to make much difference whether I have visibility at 2000 or 6000 FPS though. I think I'll have to stick to running other MP missions. With my other PC (Athlon II X4 630, 4GB, 6850 1GB) connected to the Battlefield 3 A2 CTI server, that does a bit better at around 20-25 FPS, so it does seem to be the server part that's dragging things down. It doesn't seem to suffer from the same jerkiness as on the more powerful PC however, although that has a few more things running in the background, so I should re-test with Gamebooster to shut those down. doveman 7 Posted April 14, 2012 Its starting to look like a driver issue.. Trying uninstalling cat and reinstalling. I only installed 12.3 the other day. Anyway, it only seems to be an issue with Battlefield 3 A2 CTI so far, and the client does run better than the server PC, so it just seems like a particularly power-hungry mission.
