habdoel 0 Posted June 12, 2002 listen paratrooper in the 19th centery democrasy was brand new, and the manifest is how abouth providing the working class the power of the state=democracy. It was normal to fight for it, just like a country in that age had to fight for indipendense (i'm not english,...)
Paratrooper 0 Posted June 12, 2002 Bad governments should be voted out, it's is the responsibility of the people, Democracy has responsibilities as well as freedoms.

Paratrooper 0 Posted June 12, 2002 Well if you've read it you know that it does not make a plan for a communistic society, and its meaning to modern western society is minimal. It was written for a time, people and condition that existed over 100 years ago.
Prune 0 Posted June 12, 2002 Absolutely. Infrastructure and communications have improved to a point where (real) communism is no longer viable.

WKK Gimbal 0 Posted June 12, 2002 Communism might have worked in a small village in the middle ages. Everyone worked hard - not to gain personal goods - but because if they didn't, they'd lose face to the rest of the village, for not doing their part of the work. As soon as the village becomes too large, people would become anonymous, thus would have no moral scruples about being lazy and leeching off of others. It's a dream - no matter how good the intentions where it will never work - atleast not in a modern world. Only the Smurfs seems to have pulled it off, but they're also pretty stupid. Paratrooper 0 Posted June 12, 2002 It was written for people suffering in the industrial revolution, It was applicabe to the Russians, Chinese and others at later stages because they were further behind in industrial and social development.

arkadeyevich 0 Posted June 12, 2002 Communism might work good in a village where everybody knows eachother. This will keep people from taking more or doing less than their fair share. Unfortunally once the village grows to more than a couple of hundred, is gets impossible to know everybody.

I would like to know.<span id='postcolor'> When it was written up, news, at best, travelled at "horse and bugy" speed. So no one was really bothered that the president's term lasted something like 4 years. These days, 4 years seems like a mighty long time, plenty to royally fuck a country up. *cough* Liberals in Canada *cough* IMHO elections should be held every one or two years. More accountability to the people on the part of government
Guest Posted June 12, 2002 Lol Tovarish! Very good point indeed. Before the news of a newly elected president would reach LA, a new president would be elected in Washington I think the major fuck-up in the constitution is that it makes itself unchangable. That is never good. That means that when a new form of government is introduced, it will be through revolution. And in a country that has nukes and a big military, that is never good news ... and please don't say that that form of government will be like this forever. Even the roman empire crumbeled, and it was far more stable and solid then USA has ever been.
