Important PBO's into a ramdisc?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, ive bumped already in few posts, people saying, they use ramdisc to gain performance, by putting important pbo's into a ramdisc.

Maybe i did understand something wrong, but if it's true, how to do this? Game will just crash at boot if some pbos are not present in game folder. Any help pls?

You shall not "move" the pbo's but "copy" them. ArmA 2 loads his own stuff first and it expect it to be in the installs addon folder, nowhere else.

Now copying it to a Ramdisk actually makes ArmA 2 treat it like a replacement mod although it doesn't really replace anything. A2 just "thinks" that the modfolder (the stuff in your ramdisk) contains updated/changed versions of the original and loads any required data from there.

Also use the SEARCH function as there is already a thread about Ramdisk somewhere in this Forum.

thx will do

maybe i did something wrong, but i see no performance gain after copying about 4gb addons in to ramdisc (chernarus, buildings, plants etc) Perhaps the performance even degreed. I see now that texture blocks at distant trees/buildings when i turn around.

How i'm sure it is working right? Copied everything to ramdisc, then created addon folder and copied there - no changes.

Perhaps you did not add the new addon folder to your shortcut used to run the game? Once in game, you can check under Expansions to see the mod folders the game is aware about. Also, the addon folder that you copy stuff to must be in the ramdisk drive, eg. E:\.

For more help, state the name and path of your ramdisk addon folder and paste the shortcut you use to run the game here

thx, will try.

Seems to be working now, named folder @ramdisc, countains folder Addons with buildings etc. Also can see it under expansions. Maybe it loads faster now, but perforance is awful, swaps by rotating camera/moving etc. Perhaps it depends on ramdisc software, maybe need to try different one.

just in case did crystal disk bench, results are not bad or?

Maybe your ramdisk is so large you dont have enough ram for normal operation, then you have to use the pagefile a lot.
