spec_ops_sniper 0 Posted February 12, 2012 That is something that crossed my mind but I didn't want to suggest it first. Nuclear weapons obviously need a specific kind of knowledge regarding safe storage, handling and maintenance. Doubly so when attached to a missile that needs very specific care of it's own and Plutonium itself is Pyrophoric, (spontaneously combusts in air). I was reminded of a tale from Gulf War 1 where Saudi Tanks went rushing up towards the Iraqi border and promptly broke down and wouldn't start. Some US armoured troops happened to be passing and eventually discovered the engine air filters were completely clogged with dust and sand. The filters had never been changed and the troops didn't know how, lack of training. I don't know if things are still that bad but lets hope Saudi nuclear technicians will have better training. Nuclear accidents are a fascinating read BTW: They will most likely have to hire foreigners to maintain the weapons and the facilities. The only question is who will they go to? They Hired private American, Canadian and European companies to maintain their aircraft and 70% of their air force is privatized (hence why i was unfortunate enough to live there). So we may be looking at a mostly privatized Nuclear weapons program.
PELHAM 10 Posted February 12, 2012 They will most likely have to hire foreigners to maintain the weapons and the facilities. The only question is who will they go to? So we may be looking at a mostly privatized Nuclear weapons program. It would have to be Pakistan - All the others except India and North Korea have signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty so it would be illegal to supply them. Technically it would be illegal for Saudi to buy them because it is also a signatory but all they have to do is give 90 days notice to leave due to the security threat and that would be that. It's possible they might allow a US missile base to be built on Saudi soil (similar to existing NATO sharing agreements) but that has huge political consequences locally and internationally.
