The shilka

True, but I kinda like to use first person just for the realism factor. I turn out when I don't think there is a risk of being shot at but I turn in otherwise. It takes getting used to, but it's pretty easy to just follow the road even through a 2 cm sq hole.

I think it's a bit easier to see out of a tank in real life, because in Operation Flashpoint, you always want to duck so you can see better out of the periscopes.

i agree tho, i find shilka engaging infantry quite unrealstic. vehicles yes, lone infantryman no, unless all the other troops around the shilka were also firing at the target... visiblity wouldnt exactly be fantastic in that thing

ruud: use third person view when driving a tank, its unrealistic but much easier<span id='postcolor'>

It would optics as a backup to the radar. And the Zuu engaging infantry unrealsitic in RL? Why not? I mean if the Zuu can see the infantry and can bring it's guns to bear, for damn sure it's going to kill the enemy, even if that isn't it's defined role!

During the 80s Afghan war the Soviet Army developed a tactic of having Shilka escort convoys through mountain passes etc...at the the first sign of an ambush the ZSU would blaze away at the hillside or whatever and keep everyone's heads down.

In third person with tanks its hard to target stuff since often you can't vaoid targetting your own tank even though you aren't directly pointing on it sad.gif

There is even a version of the Shilka developed by the Soviets for the Afghan war - "Afghanka" - with the radar removed and extra ammo added. For ground combat

Thanx to my n00bie opf swkillz i always keep turned out anyway (can't bloody see from inside) so it always happens quicker.<span id='postcolor'>

Have you tried using the optics to see out of the shilka? You can zoom in and out. And it's much safer than being turned out (same as using sights on your m16).
