newbie attempt at moding

hi, i was just wondering in anyone here has comeacross a no bullshit, complete tutorial to retexturing units already in the game, i've got to the stage of making the grayscales but after that it goes to diffrent videos either switching to vehicals or people using gimp over photoshop ect, ect and NONE of them seem to show how to finish them and replace the originals or how to redistrabute them as another unit.

any help, tuts, ect would be appreaciated :)

I'm not sure there is a unified set of steps to make artwork. I'm not sure what you mean by 'making the greyscales'.

So what you need is help with:

  • Finishing the texture
  • creating a config
  • making a pbo

Is that accurate?

yes, i've unpboed and converted the _nohq and _co files for the usmc grenadiers and im looking to change the textues but all the tuts i've found only go upto destaurating the nohq images and cutting out the armor and such.

what do you mean by changing the texture?

* Changing the maps/textures associated with a model?

* Changing the existing pattern?

Oh, I see, you're trying to use the nohq file as a cavity map... Well, I wouldn't do that, you get weird highlights. I would just use the blue channel as a cavity map, but that's just me. Anyways, I guess the next steps would be:

1. Take that desaturated nohq file and set it as a multiply layer

2. Paint a texture underneath it

3. ???

4. Profit.

okay, i've changed by mind, does anyone know of a guide to make entire units from scratch, models, textures, configs, the lot?
