Can someone explain to me...

Recommended Posts

... why the MD500-style helicopter appears to have a Bell 206 tailboom? Is this "Artistic License"?

I did a quick Advanced Search of the forums and did not see a mention of this, but maybe I missed it.

thanks,

Dave B.

I gather that the reason is that the helicopter is an archetypal 'Light Helicopter' and is not meant to be an exact simulation of the MD500.

Thanks.. For the record, it bugs me. I'd sure like to know the thinking behind this -- it's not like the MD500 hasn't been modeled before in games.

But -- I'll suffer through. The flight model is far far more important.

cheers,

Dave.

Copyright, plain and simple. You slap the name McDonnell Douglas on the front, you gotta pay royalties to Boeing now. If it's an exact 3D copy, they can sue....so move the Horizontal Stabilizers a viola, you've got a "Light Helicopter"...not a MD500.

Same goes for the "Medium" and "Heavy" choppers, too. Not exact reproductions, but close enough...

Yep, BI are not Activision or EA - these kind of usage rights would be way beyond their purse! However, should the community release a version then generally everybody is safe - certainly this was the case in Arma.

Why, yes, if someone 3D guru would release a 100% accurate version for no charge <hint hint>, then that would be totally acceptable. :)

Sounds like a good candidate for the addon request thread.
