Difficulty Settings/ai skill

Recommended Posts

Now i know their are two difficulty, settings one for precision and one for skill, these as from what i understand can be changed in the text file, or in the game options, at the bottom with sliders. now my question is, what is the AI skill setting in relation to this other difficulty setting...does one override the other..

right now i have AI skill set to 1, while i have Precision set to 0.45....now suppose that you set the enemy AI skill slider to the max....what happens to these numbers....

not sure if this question belongs in the editor section or not since im more concerned about understanding AI ability and its relationship to other seemingly related settings...

Yeah this should be in the editor section, searching would also find you something, I am sure I have seen at least 1 topic on this.

Skill setting is about how much AI sticks to cover and to its own team.

Precision setting is about how fast AI will put a bullet into your head.

thank you....now the only one that i am confused about, is this third option that is in the mission editor, labeled as "skill'. how does this work in relation to these other two settings...does it simply override the setting in my conf file, or does it adjust other aspects (unrelated to the other options) of the AI behavior.

The "third" option in the mission editor was actually the only skill setting in OFP. There were no sliders in the options for players, only SuperAI appeared later on.

SuperAI did and should still do override skill settings of all units in the mission to just 1.0/max.

So the two later skill sliders in options have to be doing something else.

I suppose they are relatively altering all skill settings inside the mission.

mission-skill * options-skill,

both with a range from 0 to 1

Which would imply that the unit skill set in the mission file is the max possible value, and could be toned down by the users likings.

But use hint format ["%1",(skill myunit)] to compare the skill setting of a unit while playing under different option settings.

Skill has the greatest effect on the AI's awareness and spotting capabilities. Also, more skilled units will change their rate of fire slightly. High-skilled AI are harder on your GPU.

As for Precision, it will vary AI accuracy from downright abysmal to below average. (With single aimed shots, anyways)
