SCY 10 Posted October 17, 2011 I just saw this on the Steam storefront and am very intrigued. Does anyone know if there would be any way to use an RC transmitter like the DX8? I use in Phoenix sim but that has it's own TX to USB interface and Windows does not list the TX in game controllers when it's hooked up. If not what would be a good controller? The only thing I have that seems like it would work at all other than the DX8 is an old Logitech Extreme 3D Pro.
liquidpinky 11 Posted October 17, 2011 (edited) Usually you can get a cable to link them up to your PC so you can practice in RC sims like the one I use for my Walkera heli, you need software like PPJoy installed as well. It tends to not work with win7 64 though. :( To be fair, you are better using a proper flight stick or even a joypad over using an RC controller as it has less usable buttons. For the price you could pick a pretty good HOTAS, unless you fly RC helis too then I would maybe worth while. Look into programs like Xpadder and Pinnacle for binding external controllers to keys, they recognise analogue control too. SCY 10 Posted October 17, 2011 I already own the DX8 (mainly fly a T-Rex 550). I suppose there wouldn't be a good way to link game commands to the various switches. I've never seen a game controller with the quality level of pots and gimbals used in RC radios, but I've never had one of the really expensive setups (and can't really see getting one). Do you know of a good, inexpensive gaming setup? I see Thrustmaster has a $34 HOTAS but considering the others are several hundred dollars the low price tag on the T-Flight HOTAS X seems kind of out of place. I haven't used a non-RC sim in a really long time - any advice on what's out there nowadays would be appreciated. I can't imagine flying a heli with a joypad - the sticks just don't have the precision.
tommytoad2 10 Posted October 18, 2011 You'll need another interface, i have one for my cheap RC-radio that works like a normal joystick. You should be able to find out what kind of interface you need with the help of google.
jcgam 11 Posted October 18, 2011 I have the Logitech G940 and it's an awesome setup but expensive. For a basic RC interface with built-in USB you can't get much cheaper than this: http://www.hobbypartz.com/flsi2.html I bought the $14 controller and it works fine. Isaac 10 Posted October 21, 2011 Hey Liquidpinky, what walkera do you have? I got a Walkera V450D01 and it is a joy to fly!
liquidpinky 11 Posted October 22, 2011 Hey Liquidpinky, what walkera do you have?I got a Walkera V450D01 and it is a joy to fly! Mine is just a 4#3Q so it barely qualifies as a heli, although the tail rotor certainly makes it entertaining to fly indoors. Seeing as it uses RPM for altitude adjustment it is more like an A2 heli to fly as opposed to yours which is like the real thing but you can't sit in it. I should have gone co-axial to start with though, I always seem to jump in at the deep end. The tail has seen superglue on a good few occaisions.
