Modelling advice rotors

Recommended Posts

Hi I was just wondering what the best way to make my rotor blades paralel was.. I've used the old rotate by angle command and plonked them on the various sides of the hub.... Is there a better way to do this that will result in them being perfectly positioned?

can you be more specific? You mean you want to array rotate the blades to form the 3/4/5 rotor pallet? Are you using what for modelling? O2?

I can't help you then, sorry, never modelled a screw in O2 myself, i just know how to set up the content for selections, animations, etc after i get it in from a different software (i hate O2 quite a lot, and find it hard to use when missing the most basic tools needed).

EDIT:

In max this is a 15 min job tops (creating from zero a rotor pallet). If you want, i can just do it for you (i know that won't help you at all on the ling run, but well).

Just use the pin.

  • Select the centre axis/points.
  • Press C to centre the pin.
  • (You may need to press Shift+C to make it active. The pin will now have a circle around it. if not press it again until it appears)

  • Make the plan/top view port active.
  • Select your rotor blade, then goto the menu bar at the top. Points > Transform2D > Rotate.
  • If you have a 3 rotor setup its 120 degrees. Click OK.

Now repeat for the 3rd blade etc.

Don't forget to recalculate normals (F5) after rotating. ;)
