MP communication questions - please help

I'm very new to MP, and have a few questions. I've been playing Insurgency, and have also posted these questions in the Insurgency thread (sorry for x-post).

1) how do I get my microphone working in A2 ( I can hear other people talking but I don't think they can hear me)

2) how do I chat via the keyboard (type in comments)

3) what do the yellow or red broken chain links mean when they come up on the screen?

1) I guess test it in windows / with teamspeak / skype.

2) - is the default chat key. You can change it in key configuration.

3) yellow: server is "laggy" (high ping situation); red: connection lost (or very high ping situation and may return to normal)

Might be wrong but I thought the Chains went like this ?

1. Orange Chain - bad connection to server (yours or the servers connection is suffering)

2. Broken Orange Chain - bad dysnc \ server load (the server or your PC is suffering from cpu load) - (if all players experience this at the same time I would then suspect that its a server load problem)

3. Red Chain - VERY BAD or TOTAL loss of connection to the server. (this is normaly followed by a time out timer count down and means that either your connection to the server or the server itself is down)

4. Broken Red Chain - VERY BAD dysnc \ server load (the server or your PC is suffering from cpu load) - (if all players experience this at the same time I would then suspect that its a server load problem)

I've stayed up to 2am the last two nights in a row playing Insurgency. I have never played real MP in any game before that. If I get into mods as well, I worry that my entire life will be absorbed by A2 (about 1/2 of it has been absorbed already), as those mods are like learning a whole new game, right? Oh man.

ACRE sounds awesome and complex. To use ACRE, it has to be on the server, and all players have to have it installed?

Then there's also the modded Insurgency which would be cool to try :

If you look for N3ro Tr0y's server (normally named 101) you will see a modded Insurgency that is becoming quite popular. Dead bodies DO contain information now (not tell you what information of course) and you can interrogate injured enemy too.

Lots of other good toys to play with as well. Oh and the friendly AI can revive players as well :)

Someone mentioned COWarMod. There's that to try as well. All this is a little overwhelming at first.

I've been playing on 25th infantry division server. I think some of the other guys playing are real US soldiers. Kick ass. Training has never been so much fun. The reason why I never played MP is because I thought that youngsters got on with cheats making you die every 5 seconds. Not true anymore, at least with A2. Strictly business.
