How does A2 handle i5-2500 + warfare/domination? Plus general game?

Recommended Posts

Tax time upgrade time i wanna go from a e8500 to a i5 2500, i dont have internet access so i play offline only meaning i play warfare bymself alot against the cpu, now after 40 mins of gameplay the warfare game gets sluggish on the e8500.

Now will a i5 2500 smash the e8500 at handling a solo warfare with that many cpu troops? I guess you could say im using warfare as an example of how far i intend to push the cpu and i wanna know if its gonna go crap an hour into the game.

Its a $340 AUD upgrade atm which fits my budget.

I'm only interested in the 2500 and not the K version either (not a OC'er guy).

Thanks lads :)

If you get i5 2500 you should see huge increase in fps, it will be more than considerable gain over the E8500 ( even OC'ed ).Its a beast processor and will be for good while, however if you can, wait for Ivy bridge ( its coming pretty soon ) and you should see additional 20% (up to of course) compare to sandy bridge and its 2500 line .Also native support of up to 1600Mhz DDR 3 and USB 3 makes it worth the wait, at least in my book:)

Make sure you dont bottleneck your cpu with slow HDD or/and GFX etc....

My gpu is a 5850 and my hdd is 2.5 sata

Yeah the 5850 should do fine, but if the laptop (2.5) hdd is slower than 7200 rpm i would look for upgrade at this point too as this part will hold you back.

Edit- I'm also assuming that the hdd is SATA 1 ?

While we are at it - will I see any real difference by going from Phenom II X4 955 to i5 2500k?

And by real difference I mean enough to warrant spending money on new motherboard besides CPU

You would see increase in fps too,( mine guess by more than 30%, the i5 2500 is real beast and you can push the K version to 4-4.5 Mhz on air too :p) however if you don't feel like you really need it, than don't or wait for bulldozer platform ( Q2 2012 ) or as i mentioned for the Ivy bridge.

That's what I'd do

I couldn't tell the difference with amd's Phenom II x4 965 and intel's i7-860 whilst playing ArmA Operation Arrowhead with patch 1.59 + BAF and PMC. A high end graphics card or two is the way to go if you want better framerates imho.

I'm pretty sure its sata too (if the age of hdd is same as the E8500) but it will make quite significant difference to sata 2, considering your cpu would have to wait for hdd all the time.

@Tuff gong - it's tricky indeed, it very much depence on game, with some games you get ( very same PC set up ) + 15Fps and with other + 25-30Fps.

Take a look at single threded performance:D its almost double

( sure IRL application (games) is the best indicator but it give as clue ):D
