Multiplayer - addons and how to get most out of the game

I'm having some problems configuring the game ... spent the last 2 days on installing Six Updater and reinstalling ArmA 2 (and AO + DLCs) from STEAM. I get some errors in Six Updater that I'm missing some game files and I have problems connecting to servers (also some messages that remain on the screen). I'm downloading all mods from Six Updater and hope that it will fix my problem (I know it sounds stupid). What I'm trying to achieve is to have ArmA 2 and ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead working in MP 100% ! is this too much to ask ?

If someone can point me to a few simple steps and directions and what mods do I really need would be great !

I am pretty new to ArmA 2 and I got all the DLCs and stuff from STEAM. I just want to enjoy the game and especially the multiplayer part but this Six Updater and all the mods gave me more problems so far ...

I get errors in some MP games with files missing and thats why I'm trying to download more mods ...

Does the mods overwrite eachother in game ?! something is not right I think ... I really dont want to go back to the regular shooters (CoD MoH BFBC2)

Do I need to update to beta ?!

Why are you using six? It has nothing to do with BIS product (afaik). You use six only to update your mods (if the mods have six support).

AA2/OA/CO, patched to latest (or server version), works 100% out of the box.

Guess your problem is mod-related, what mods do you use? Did you configure six correctly? I know, it's a pain in the ass. But that's what follows servers using "experimental" mods...

I'm not blaming anyone, it's just how it is nowadays. Another option it to play on no-mod servers, or servers not relying on six-updates.

Yes you are right ... but most of the servers use mods and thats the reason why I downloaded 50GB to try to play :)

I'm not a retard I hope but all I want is to play arma 2 ao or arma 2 on most of the servers and find one that has population and some good action !

I'm looking for a minimal config just to get me started :)

The green servers (green ball) supposed to be NON MODS right ? and some of them have glithches and give an error even if I can play on them ... somehow they seem to be mixed ...

I installed and reinstalled clean arma from steam ...

The mods ruined the game for newbies for sure ! and non moded servers are only a few and some lag pretty bad ... I know its an old game but I decided to come back to it after a long time.

My internet connection and computer are very decent for ARMA.

Sorry about the messed up posting that I do but this is coming from a guy that works 10 hours day and tries for 2-3 nights to get some decent ARMA action :P

I think there is hope for me also to get some action :P but I messed it all up and cant find a real solution to fix/play/have fun

The steam install is a big problem. Steam + Arma2 = lots of trouble shooting. Most of the problems you have others have had before so a search can pull up most answers. To join servers most will have what addons are listed on the MP screen. There are some stickies and tutorials for mod folder set up. Your best bet is to do the mods one by one to make sure they are set up correctly. Also read the mods Information on the forums or mod websites to make sure you don't have a conflict with another mod.

Also is your game set up for Combined Operations or straight Arrow head or Arma 2?

I'm starting the game as Combined Operations since today. I reinstalled everything again. Do you think there is a way to download the game directly from arma2.com and not use steam ? Steam offers the CD-KEYs so maybe I can install it ?

For Steam the only real problem should be registry keys not existing, usually after a new install, update or repair.

To fix, launch the Steam Launcher as Administrator, and with it start both games (A2 Standalone, and OA Standalone) seperately at least once.

This will correct registry entries and should make tools like SU detect your installations properly.
