Independence lost

A lot of excitement was generated by the semi-official announcement of Independence Lost this past winter. Rumor has it that the add-on was supposed to be released this summer. The website (here) hasn't been updated and not a peep from anyone. Surely someone MUST know what's going on with it? C'mon... tease us!

nah it's not scrapped, they're probably just too busy working on it

How about letting BIS and CM get Resistance out first, make sure it's stable and then watch them spend some time teasing us till IL is released.

I didn't mean to sound impatient or anything - I was only wondering if anyone had heard any news. I thought BIS-Australia was working on IL, not BIS-Czech Republic. It also seems that IL is just a civillian version of VBS1, so I thought maybe the development process would have been separate from Resistance. But wouldn't it be cool to have both add-ons released this summer...? I can dream...

Nah, screw releasing both addons this winter, I won't be able to afford it. But I guess I can always rob a bank!

Sensible marketing would mean a Christmas release date for Independence Lost to maximise sales.

It would also be sensible to make it a game engine rewrite putting in lots of requested features; such as swimming, water that runs down hill, dynamic game play and larger scale (say company to battalion level) battles.

Esentialy an OFP2 Independence Lost at Christmas would be the top selling PC Game. Being a top selling game is worth extra sales as many buy the game to see what the fuss is about, and parents and other present buying members of the family are prone to buy the number one seller when making a product choice in an area where they have no expertise.

I would expect it to be anticipated with lots of snippets say month to a month anf a half before release just to get the ball roling and possibly this time TV adverts say OFP2 out soon on the PC a fortnight before release and running up to christmas.

Making it an OFP 2 means we all have to upgrade epecialy if it were backward compatable as most servers would switch to it and all the "best" (most glitzy) Mods would be on that version.

Speaking of coincidences, East Timor, the country IL is based upon (search The FAQ for "independence lost" and read the story line at the bottom of the matching item) , just became independent.

Maybe they're waiting to see how reality kicks in.

I was actually thinking about some other issues and how they can make a realistic campaign called IL based on East Timor

But that's just too horrible to be true!!

I would say the story is based on how East Timor lost it's independance to Indonesia and the efforts made by the country and supporting countries (australia, new zealand, etc) to regaind it's independance, which it once again recently gained.

I think that maybe they're waiting till resistance is released to utillise the new features of resistance. No use making an outdated addon.

I remember hearing about the "Free the East Timorese" actions for a long time, years, and I'm not sure about the early events but towards the end, when East Timor was finally getting close to independance, Indonesia was hiring millitia groups to go sort the East Timorese out. This is when the international community really stepped in.

Enough there to make a campaign I think, but I'm not sure about all the units they apparently intend on including. AFAIK aussie/nz don't have vtols etc and america/england played only a small, if any, part in the peace keeping efforts at this time.

Although perhaps they're setting the story line around when they lost their independance. The details of when or how this happened I am unaware about.
