Guarding hawk

Recommended Posts

Well, I`m back and I brought something with me. I`m almost feeling like good ol` Santa!! Many won`t possibly believe it, but I joined the mission editors…

(FallenPaladin`s forum history: started as spammer in 2001, became more serious in spring 2002 and finally a rookie mission editor in mid 2002… What will be next? )

I had some time the last two weeks beside learning and all the other boring stuff, so I began playing around with the OFP editor. Putting units in and giving them waypoints was easy but using triggers gave me a hell of a headache! Also I had many problems in the beginning, because I had no list of the actions and moves the units can perform. But after I read a 100+ pages tutorial (thanks to Mr-Murray for that) and fighting my way through the information BIS gave us on editing, I slowly began to feel fitter in editing.

My mission is called Guarding Hawk and you must have the latest OFP version installed to play it, also Kegetys Hawk (Thanks again, Keg, you`re the man! ) . I designed the mission in veteran mode, but it should work in cadet mode too of course (hope the balance is still good) . In the mission you will fly a hind interception to protect a squad of M60s and also you have to protect your home airbase on Malden. I`m not going to tell any more, because I don`t want to spoil too much. I`m really looking forward to getting some feedback on my skill and some advice in how to improve my mission. There are a few little problems I have, but I`ll tell later after your first tests. The mission runs well, what bothers me are only minor flaws.

That leads me to another problem and a request. I only have internet in my office here at work so far and because of that no webspace to upload my mission onto. Also it`s still in the testing phase and I don`t want to send ofpeditingcenter.com or any other mission-site a buggy mission. The pbo-file is not large, because Guarding Hawk has so far no intro, outro or cutscenes (because I don´t know yet how to make some), it`s only 21 KB. If anyone could do me the favour to upload my mission file and post the link to it here, I`d be very happy and thankful and send it to him/her on e-mail. After that the testing could start. Give my mission a try! For the first one I ever did, I think it`s quite good!

I can host the file for you.

Actually you can host files on your pc with an FTP server. Not pratical if you have dial-up of course. And if you don't have a static IP address you would have to change the url frequently. Each time you reboot your IP address can change. You can get around that by obtaining a free sub domain at ftp://xxx.xx.xx.xx it would be whatever.dns2go.com.

Ehm... And don`t wonder why there`s no music in my mission! I always play without music because of the realism and atmosphere wink.gif

@Gothicone:

Just send it to Avon, but I`ll send it to you anyway. So you don`t have to download it.

But thanks, Gothic!  smile.gif

Cool, always ready to play a new mission.

Yeah, the music is the first thing I shut off when I get a new game.

I send the pbo-file now zipped. Don`t know why my e-mail program corrupted the data before confused.gif

PBOs should preferrably always be zipped before emailing them or making them available for download. Their record format has knwon to become corrupted on raw PBO downloads.

It's not a competitor to OFP seagulls. biggrin.gif It's a plane addon by Kegetys. It's easily found at OFPEC.

You`ll find it there! It`s a new finnish training jet with stinger rockets.

The mission seems rather simple. However, every time I play, Kegety's Hawk winds up going into an uncontrollable spin, I get vertigo (well, good and dizzy! ), everything goes black and I bounce several kilometers over the ocean like a skimming stone.

So even if I've shot down Ivan and Kasimir, I cannot finish the mission, thanks to the Hawk!

I feared a little that the mission might be to easy. Balancing is not so easy as it seems... Maybe I should design the next one in cadet mode confused.gif

But I have no problems with the Hawk. I accelerate up to 270 on the runway and then take off slowly, that works.

I can even land it in one piece wink.gif

I have no problems taking off. It's when I accelate and turn that the Hawk most of the time goes into its spin.

Uhm... confused.gif

BTW I have Satchel`s soundmod installed... Hope that doesn`t make problems to people who don`t have that, when playing my missions.
