sanders54 10 Posted February 23, 2011 Hello all I'm wanting to host a Arrowhead server with BE Warfare and I have set up a pc with the following specs: Intel E8200 @ 3 GHz I think 8GB DDR2 Geforece 8800 GTS 512MB 500GB harddrive 25 mbit download and 5 mbit upload. I'm thinking around 5-10 man server, will I have lag problems due to AI or something? I want a smooth server experience. So what do you guys think? Thanks
Gnome_AS 10 Posted February 24, 2011 Well, honestly I think you'll be pushing it a little. And I lean that way do to the "warfare" aspect. That falls into the somewhat taxing department. That being primarily a cpu issue. You can take some ram out, unless you need for other stuff. And the GPU is trivial. From experience though, if you're not crazy with the settings, and keep the AI counts down a little. It should run pretty well for what you've described. (been a few months since I've played bennys warfare.. used to run pretty well though, imagine it still does..) One other thing I'll mention is the connection. It's been a while since I've looked at ArmA2 traffic on the dedicateds, but generally speaking the "upload" is the primary factor. While 5mbit should be fine, some/many residential connections can still suffer, as those speeds might not be available all the time. Network congestion and whatnot. Kinda depends on where ya live, isp, etc.. .
sanders54 10 Posted February 24, 2011 Okay, thanks. I was also wondering what I should put in my server.cfg since I don't know what half the values mean in regarding to my connection. I would like to point out that my 5mbit upload is very stable since there are very few internet users in my town. Thanks for help and sorry for my noobness. Hud Dorph 22 Posted February 24, 2011 Conserning the upload.. 5Mbit is more than enough you will have no problems even to run a 30player server. The cpu is quite a different issue.
sanders54 10 Posted February 24, 2011 Oh wow, 30 man :P What CPU should be enough for let say a 30 man server?
nobrainer 0 Posted February 24, 2011 for warefare, I would calculate 512 kbits pr player for lin kapacity. Not allways needed, but it's a pain in the a** if you get to many people on the line. So my guesstimate would be 10 players with warfare. Other types of PvP I would use 256 kbits pr player, so then you might get 20 on that line. But as they say, warfare like cpu... This would be much more guesstimate, but at least a i7 @ 3.5GHz with at least 4 GB memory would do the trick. But it's also tweaking the config. And I do not think tat we know all the secrets from BIS. I also might be totally wrong....
Primarch 10 Posted March 3, 2011 You will need a top-end line of xeon processor if you wish someone to stay on your server for more than 15 minutes after they figure your server is too weak to calculate dying AI.
Hud Dorph 22 Posted March 5, 2011 Thats not true - 5mbits upload and a quad processor will do quite nicely - the more mhz on the quad the better, but around 3Ghz you are absoluty good to go.
