celery 8 Posted February 11, 2011 (edited) I vaguely remember reading that the method is patented and the patent holder is sitting on it hoping for large royalties or something. Some sound cards do have a feature to make audio more 3-dimensional in games, the feature is called CMSS-3D in Soundblasters. Funnily enough said feature breaks the "holophonic" effect in the video. Millenium7 0 Posted February 12, 2011 CMSS-3D (found on the X-Fi cards) is about the best consumer grade 3d positioning system you will find. I guarantee you will not find anything better Also the issue with holophonic is it needs to be pre-recorded, it is not done in realtime. It uses real world acoustic properties so the only way to get that in realtime with mono sounds (yes 3d game sounds are mono, and then positioned at a 3d point) is to exactly emulate those acoustic properties at all angles. Pretty much exactly what CMSS-3D already does....
LJF 0 Posted February 14, 2011 Yeah, I just got a pair of Roccat Kaves (real 5.1 audio) and a Fatality x-fi and it's amazing in A2 - truly some of the best sound I've ever heard :)
Uziyahu--IDF 0 Posted February 17, 2011 Yeah, I miss my Creative soundcard. With headphones on, it could make it sound like a sound was orbiting around and above your head.
lozz08 10 Posted February 17, 2011 Dolby headphone that is present on xonar cards takes 5.1/7.1 and puts it through headphones. With a good set of headphones it is brilliant.
