Faulty AV-8B controls

Recommended Posts

Hi PoorOldSpike,..I'm guessing that you changed the config values so I've just got a quick question, is it really slow to accelerate when taking off in forward flight?

Here's a little video of the problem. I'm not sure how to fix it..

No, I never touched any config stuff, AA2 is not a flight sim so personally I'm not too worried if the aerodynamics side of things lack a degree of realism.

The vid looks about par for the course, a typical short takeoff same as mine, I can't see any real problem.

Aha sorry, I thought it was a vertical take-off that you performed in those pictures.

No mate, I've been sweating blood trying to get the kite to lift off vertically but I can't do it, best I can manage is a short takeoff. A ski jump would help short t-offs like Daniel says but there's not one in the game.

Anyway I don't think real-world Harriers use pure vertical t-offs and landings anyway because there's no real need to do them in most situations.

Oh boy that's not true. Wind is modelled and it effects particles. With a bit of scripting it can also effect anything else...
But it does not affect any vehicle or Aircraft or any other object that is not a particle or map object in vanilla ArmA2...Mods don't count since the majority is not using mods obviously.

When we discuss the feature of a game we discuss it out of the bocx not a full conversion.

Wind has non influence to aircraft or projectiles in ArmA 2 otherwise PG-7 would miss much ore often as it would turn into the wind.

AV-8B in Arma 2 can do short takeoffs, vertical ones are impossible regardless of loadout because dynamic mass is not simulated. Landings can be done vertically.

Couldnt a setvelocity script take care of the problem?

What problem? It is a depiction of the performance of a loaded AV8B...there is no problem, it can take off from any rough field on Chernarus or Takistan...all you need is 100m clearance.

And probably for good reason. In my tests, artillery becomes useless even with a gentle wind when you apply drift. Of course you can parameterize it so artillery is not (or barely) effected.

Still I bet BIS could easily implement wind drift into projectile and vehicle simulations. I think it would be totally unnecessary in most cases though it would be neat if they did get around to implementing it.

Yeah. It might make it believable when a pilot offers wind as an excuse for a change in extraction method.

Hi Cyborg, I'm just a little bit confused about what you're saying. If you mean in real life then I'm sure it can (
), In ArmA 2 you can too with the config change (See above).

Without any changes you can't take off vertically in ArmA 2 :p

The Harrier in the Video can take off because of a simple reasons

It has no payload maybe also not full fuel...so its weighting like 3 tons less as a combat takeoff would.

out of the same reason a Su-33 can take off from a US carrier without catapult.

Since ArmA does ot simulate payloads weight theres nothing we can do to have a clean Harrier take off vertically without modding or scripting.
