Deuce82 10 Posted February 8, 2011 Hey i'm just getting into modeling and have been reading some of the posts for those starting out. I'm a mechanical engineer and use Solidworks at my current job. How compatible, if at all, are Solidworks models? i can save the models i create in a *.u3d format. is that compatible with O2? i know that texturing and some of the finishing touches cant be done with solidworks but i can create models in solidworks very quickly so i'm hoping to use that. any thoughts? jagheterjan 10 Posted February 8, 2011 Hej, Oxygen allows for import of meshes in .3ds and .obj format. Meshes for ArmA have to be all planar tris or (preferably) quads or the game engine will reject the file/crash during import.
Deuce82 10 Posted February 8, 2011 ok i dont see those formats as ones that Solidworks can create. stereolithography(.stl) files wouldnt happen to be compatible would they?
max power 21 Posted February 8, 2011 They would not.

max power 21 Posted February 8, 2011 There might be a program that you can use to convert stl files to 3ds or obj. I'm just not aware of any. Maybe blender has something?
Macser_old 0 Posted February 8, 2011 (edited) I know Blender 2.49b can import stl files. But I've never tried it myself. Meshlab can import from stl too,as far as I'm aware. From either of those you should be able to export to a variety of formats. Edited February 8, 2011 by Macser
