ProfTournesol 956 Posted January 21, 2011 Are you playing this game at 20-30 fps ? Of course not, if you were you'd want to find out what the culprit was. So this is your conclusion? that i'm too compulsive to stop looking at my fps or that Sapphire just sucks? (which btw is a fairly biased statement) Ok, no need to flame me again, and stop drinking coffee, that ain't good for your nerves (and mine). I don't have (major) performance troubles, and as i upgraded my card from a similar but better card than your old one (hd4870x2) to a similar than yours, i saw a big improvements in performance and then implied your GPU isn't the culprit. Moreover, Sapphire 5870 vapor x revision two (blue pcb) is known to be built with subpar components (worst than the previous build, that's sad). But maybe that won't effect your FPS. Okay then, i guess according to you it's wrong to not accept to play this game at low 20's after considerable upgrades. And of course since you are "handling arma 2/OA without any problems" you must understand (sarcasm) the struggle and frustration for other people that are trying to get better frame rates? The reason you don't look at your FPS is because your fps is probably not something that would need investigating into. If i didn't understand your pain, i won't even bother posting here. Believe me, i got a RL and some mod work in the pipe. Your not the one getting mediocre gameplay is all i'm saying my friend. All i'm asking is for help on increasing enjoyment for the game giving me 5-10fps will make me very happy is all. I still can't play the campaign. It's not a crime is it to ask for help? If there is absolutely nothing that can be done i understand perfectly and i'll desist any additions to this thread so it may die and be done with. What campaign are you talking about ? HR causes troubles to a great amount of people, the other ones are mainly ok. And finally, upgrading your CPU seems really a good idea. Mine is a i7 and i'm very happy with it (even if some others got a lot of trouble with i7 too).
Defunkt 431 Posted January 21, 2011 )rStrangelove;1839131']I think ATI is to blame here. I love my HD4870' date=' for what it cost the ArmA performance is astounding and I purchased it because [url']www.pcgameshardware.com[/url] found ATI to have a considerable price-performance edge in one of the first A2 reviews. gambla 10 Posted January 26, 2011 Not the first discussion about the fps-drops but very interesting. I'm playing BIS since OFP and just want to give you my 2 cents: As already stated, the CPU is as important as the GPU. Second fact is, higher CPU frequency is helping much. I'm not a friend of massive OCing, but however, it's good for better fps in A2. Another recommendation would be to buy a small (60GB) SSD. That doesn't improve fps directly but should improve the overall performance. Because i knew how important a fast CPU and GPU are, i waited for the realease of the new Sandy Bridge CPUs and Boards. Now i bought a i2500K and looking for a good GTX570. But i'm sure i'll have these fps drops too. All i hope is that i get a halfway good minimum fps rate through the majority of the scenarios in game.
jumpinghubert 49 Posted January 26, 2011 @Marc15yo i read somewhere the ratio of screen is important for good performance in Arma2/OA (crazy enough..): 16:9 (1920x1080) has lower performance than 16:10 (1920x1200). Maybe a ssd helps.
EDcase 87 Posted January 26, 2011 (edited) I upgraded from a GTX285 to HD5870 and got at least 10fps better. In empty desert I get ~90fps. You cannot put everything on highest settings tho. I prefer smooth gameplay to super high gfx settings so only push up the visual enhancements that are really important to you and keep as much as possible lower. As mentioned: Make sure VSync is OFF in ARMA and CCC Frame drops during play are probably texture loading and buffering so the HD is struggling. An SSD will help. ( I have 30Gb SSD just for ARMA and get few stutters) I also keep textures on NORMAL and DEFAULT All AI units are handled by CPU so that will become the bottleneck in busy missions and putting gfx to lowest will not help. (If you reach the CPU limit you can put up gfx settings a bit without much fps hit) Edited January 26, 2011 by EDcase
