NiKuTa 10 Posted January 10, 2011 Hi. I have some problem to optimize my setting. I don't know why but my game don't run smoothly. My rig: CPU: i5 660 GPU: ATI Sapphire 5850 1GB RAM: 4GB DDR3 - (on winXP only 3,5 GB) MB: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R HDD: 2 x barracuda II 0,5 TB, 16 MB SYS: WinXP 32bit SP3. My question in what luncher option I should use for my CPU? Dual-Core processor: -nosplash -cpucount=2 -exThreads=1 Quad-Core processor: -nosplash -cpucount=4 -exThreads=7 Hexacore processor: -nosplash -cpucount=6 -exThreads=7 i5 have 2 core but 4 threats ? so i dont know what option i should set. I read somewhere that I should turn OFF HTT - http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1662108&postcount=1 About my GPU. I dont know what setting should be optimized for my GPU. I try change a lot of setting and my game still don't work smoothly. Pls give me some advice, tips etc. I read a lot of topics and I'm confused. Is any topic where I can find what luncher options I can use and what this options means?
helo 10 Posted January 10, 2011 When you game is stuttering, it might also come from a HDD with relatively fragmented data. Try to make sure that your HDD is 0% fragmentated, since ArmA is loading a lots of things from your HDD like textures for instance.
Nephris1 10 Posted January 10, 2011 (edited) Try those ingame settz...and welcome to BIS forums. You have to test a bit with the settz. A lot of frames take the shadows, and AA. texture details: normal object details: normal AF: normal AA: normal land details: normal shadow: low/normal hdr:normal post P.:deactiv vsync: deactiv resolution native 3d resol.:same as your resolution Vram:high/normal Depending on your native resolution you can higher the 3d solution to 150% and AA off, what i did with my old 17° monitor. Nevertheless i prefer at higher resolutions to work with same 3d res as the native res and am working with AA. You can skip the the exThreads=xxx commands, as it is executed by default since a few patches. The settings above are maybe a bit lower than your system can actually handle, but it is always easier to get em higher from a smooth running system, than from the opposite. To check your FPS on the settings changes use e.g.Fraps (freeware). I wouldnt bed on your I5 to have only 2 cores ;-) Expect 4 physic cores and one thread on each core, as long as hyperthreading is activated. Nevertheless u shouldnt bother about that too much atm. Keep in mind, you have actually a good basement for ArmA2 with your system. If you are wiling to afford more , u can think anytime about a ssd disk, which eliminate any texture poppings and makes gameplay much smoother. Not mentioned the boost for your system at all. But at the end you are good to go with what u got atm, probably better than most other Arma2 players. So your system itself shouldnt be the problem to play ArmA2 smooth. As my pre poster already stated, defragmentate your HDD, to keep a good performance at least on the bottleneck. Edited January 10, 2011 by Nephris1
NiKuTa 10 Posted January 11, 2011 After some tests nothing helps. I download ArmA2-Mark (this benchmark). After some runs my score in low. 1 - 39.2028 2 - 34.2252 3 - 25.738 4 - 38.8349 5 - 33.6224 ------------- Score - 3432.47 I run a benchmarks from game 1 - 41 fps 2 - 15 fps My actual settings: res: 1680x1050 tex - Norm Vram - high AA - low AF - norm terrain - norm objects - high shadows - norm HDR - very high PostProcess - off Vsync - off Changing details. Rise or lowering my details change my fps only by few fps. Depending am I rise or lower details. I have some question. What is beta patches? http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php If I install this patch can I play MP? Is this patch compatible with normal server versions? ---------- Post added at 03:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:26 PM ---------- And one more thing. After some time of MP playing my fps drops. After 1-2 hour i got about 20 fps.
Flubadoo 10 Posted January 11, 2011 Turn AA off. Set HDR to normal. Postprocess to low.
tawah 13 Posted January 11, 2011 I have I5 750 and HD5850 too. But I have overclocked the CPU to 3.6GHz, it helps a lot especially when many AI are managed (in Benchmark 2 of the game for example). What I would recommand is setting VRAM to default since last patch has changed something in AMD VRAM detection. And yes HDR would be better on High. And finally, I believe that HDD is the key of your stuttering problem. But I know that improving this aspect costs a lot...
Nephris1 10 Posted January 11, 2011 Get your objexts to low.(object details are fps hungry) Get HDR to low or normal...means lowest (the higher the more fps drops...) - What about your 3d resolution? Overclocking is fine, but actually not neede with that system, means the problem is anywhere else. - Can u tell us when your system was renewed last time? The arma benchmark is fine but a stress tool. - What FPS do u get on a normal scenario mission e.g. from default Operation Arrowhead? - With what tool do u check your FPS. Open your task manager and controll your cpu performance pls. -What driver version do u use? - did u already test the betas?
NiKuTa 10 Posted January 13, 2011 I dont know what is this betas? And what they do ?
