Numerics 10 Posted December 28, 2010 Hey all, hope you're having a good day, I was recently on a MP server and I had joined in as a spotter, I did my part by sticking close to the sniper, but how can I effectively use the spotter? That class seems kind of nerfed in certain aspects, save for the thermal scope, but that scope - while very effective for identifying targets - is only for me as far as I know, I would really like to call out or mark units for my Sniper counterpart, I was told that it *might* do it on its own if I stare at the enemy for long enough, but it never worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Numerics 10 Posted December 28, 2010 Right clicking a target typically calls out the position of a target for the squad to hear.Abs Should I hold right-click? I've tried right-clicking, but it didn't do it, maybe I should set my controls to default. ---------- Post added at 04:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:31 PM ---------- Also, any tips on using the Spotter effectively? kdjac 19 Posted December 28, 2010 Certain gamemodes dont work with this function. If in a squad with your sniper you can right click on them but then target doesnt appear to your squadmate. Seems to be a redundant feature, the same effect happens drivers and pilots when they mark a target with right click but the gunner doesnt see it he ony gets the text "target X at 18". Shame tho it would be a useful feature if it actually worked.

maturin 12 Posted December 28, 2010 Reveal Target doesn't work if the AI hidden inside your character can't see the target. It's a pain in the ass because there's no way to get him to wise up. This can be a real problem for distant targets. But a spotter in command of a sniper can work well if you use the target menu, hold fire and the 3-3 'Fire' command. I also hate the fact that mouse look is not possible in vehicles like it was in OFP which makes targetting an absolute BITCH of a thing. In OFP you'd just put the mouse pointer over something and right click, now its not possible unless you line the actual helicopter/plane up exactly in line and hit right click, or use the hopeless 'cycle targets' button Reveal Target doesn't work if the AI hidden inside your character can't see the target. It's a pain in the ass because there's no way to get him to wise up.This can be a real problem for distant targets. I believe this should be overhauled, ideally a dynamic (and invisible) countdown timer should be implemented. I.E. if you see a tank up close in plain view it should be targetted instantly upon right clicking. If in the distance and behind a bush there should be an appropriate delay - say 4 seconds - where you have to hold down right click on the target and then it'll force it to be revealed/targetted. The further away it is + how much concealment between you and the target = the length of time you have to hold the button down for before targetting. Would work much better than relying on the 'AI vision'
sprayer_faust 0 Posted December 28, 2010 Remap the "reveal target" to some other key. I used another button on the mouse, since I have 8 buttons on the mouse (counting the mousewheel). I also find it usefull to remap the "zoom" from the right mouse button, so the only thing left there is "hold breath" (for aiming steady without the distraction of zooming in everytime you press it... but I still kept the zoom in/out on the mouse). ..... Then just aim over the target you want to be reported, fully zoom in and spam the "reveal target" - it works. But like others have pointed out, it would be very useful, if your team-mate in MP would then have the target visually marked.
walker 0 Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) Hi all In MP if you are sniper spotter you just need to be able to give clear contact/target reports and ID Targets and Reference objects. This may help: http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Contact_Reports I made a mission for a spotter gunner (Sniper or Iron Sight MG) training course on ArmA II on Zeus a while back, nothing much just some targets placed at beyond unaided visual range. Spotters just gave out Designated Reference objects then talked the sniper on to the target and corrected fall of shot; the kick of dust from larger rounds plus tracers help a lot. Kind Regards walker Edited December 28, 2010 by walker
-=seany=- 5 Posted December 28, 2010 In my experience the whole reveal target thing is messed up, hit and miss..Used to work perfectly in OFP..did I mention that before?

Would work much better than relying on the 'AI vision' It's hard to rework because at present the system is precisely the same as every other AI on the battlefield. You have no special abilities except the human in front of the screen.

demonized 20 Posted December 29, 2010 In MP you should really try using teamspeak or ventrilio to communicate and then you can tell your sniper where the target is, asuming sniper is human player. No need for fancy red circle. :)
Pease 10 Posted December 29, 2010 you need a mic, and to mark position use the compass or vector This, this, this....it's just like real life. Me and my buddy are a sniper/spotter team....I usually carry a SAW and an AR...but I use my compass and range finder to point out targets. Works pretty good.:annoy:
