sputnik monroe 102 Posted December 18, 2010 So today I was checking out army surplus shops online and came across some "Austrian Cargo Pants" not sure if they are actually authentic or not but whatever. The thing is they look Khaki and are sold for the cheap price of $20 for two pairs. Coincidentally I happen to need a lot of khaki pants for work all the sudden and was thinking of ordering some. The only issue I have is that they describe them as "Olive Drab" to me that suggest green. I was wondering, assuming these might actually be authentic, did Austrians use or still use BDU pants like this and if so are they actually more green or actually khacki as they appear on the site? I couldn't find many pictures of modern Austrian military uniforms and was hoping maybe some one on the forums has experience with this particular BDU and could comment? Here's the site http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/2-used-austrian-cargo-pants-olive-drab.aspx?a=644942 Any one else know any good army surplus shops online? I figure there's a pretty good chance a lot of others on the boards collect military stuff and what not so why not make a thread about it?
-)rStrangelove 0 Posted December 18, 2010 Washed out olive drab looks different, but i agree this looks more like coyote / more into brownish. Are you searching for US or European shops?

Coyote is usually considered to be a bit of a brownish shade right? I swear on my TV the pants look khaki but it could just be my video card, tv settings, or maybe I'm even a little colour blind :-P. I should probably just go ahead and order them, I mean the price is right for two pairs. The problem is the dress code where I work requires khaki pants, they can be little darker or lighter shade. I prefer to wear cargo pants as I always need to carry around like two or more sets of keys and usually a note pad and some random burden for the day in addition to my wallet and cell phone, so the extra pockets are handy. I'm down to two pairs of actual work pants, seems like all the latest pants styles are designed to ride your ass, maybe these wont be so bad? Plus surplus is used and thus usually broken in and comfortable. I didn't think to look on a surplus site for work pants. Originally I was just looking for a shirt I use to wear back in the day that was comfortable and was also thinking about maybe buying a M65 jacket. Perusing around that sportsman's guide site got me kind of interested in buying a lot more than I was really looking for heh heh. Saw a lot of hiking and camping gear and heck even helmets and what not that I don't need that I now want to buy lol.
rellikki 7 Posted December 18, 2010 (edited) I own a few pairs of Austrian cargo pants. Bought them for their cheap price. The colors vary a lot from different shades of green and brown. I've got a pair that is nearly gray, a pair that is pretty much green and another one that's a little more brown than the others. And yes, they're all the same type of pants. Your best bet would be to just buy some actual coyote brown BDU trousers, unless you want a guessing game. :p Edited December 18, 2010 by Rellikki
sputnik monroe 102 Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) Thanks Rellekki, good to hear a first hand account on the pants. Despite the colours being all different, are they pretty good pants? I mean for the price heck I might by the 2 pairs for $15 just to use for hiking and camping. Edited December 23, 2010 by Sputnik Monroe

If you must, make sure you get the winter fabric, which is a denim and cotton blend if I remember correctly.
