why have cars the good fine smoke when they drive on dirty ground.

and all the other have the ugly flower smoke - smoke grenades, explosions, rockets, fire and all the other things.

No, there's only one. The particle shapes may be different...

What's wrong with the explosion smoke?

It looks great when not overstretched in AT weapons.

Overall the particle system in Arma feels dated. Needs an update to reflect realism some more. Would be nice if natively it had smoke tower a lot higher and maintained a longer presence... And perhaps add an option in video settings for it?

But on topic, the particle system is one and the same. They simply added an image for smoke and left it blank for dust if that makes sense.

ok - the driving dust have not one flower - is very fine and looks awesome.

when its the same system then need all the other a update :D

i play with all on very high and 4km distance aftereffects are off

we really need a new particle system, arma 2 looks brilliant when looking at model and landscapes, but as soon as you shoot or something blows up.. the game looks crap.

Don't worry BIS its all fixable, just dedicate some time into it, seeing as this is a military game i would expect you to put some effort into military things looking correct.

But it is up to you, if you can't that's okay, justsayin :rolleyes:;)

The particle system is not the issue; it's just ArmA 2's quite limited (although much improved over ArmA) library of shapes and effects. You should look around for some mods that add more/replace the originals. You can get some very nice effects.

The real problem is that particles suffer heavily from low performance (well, they also contribute to it quite a bit).
