rcdxph 10 Posted November 29, 2010 what kind of amtosphere model is in the Arma2? Is the mesoscale model MM5 ?
evans d [16aa] 12 Posted November 30, 2010 To be honest, I'm not sure anyone know's what you mean. Do you mean game engine?
AZCoder 921 Posted December 1, 2010 Might be referring to this: http://www.mmm.ucar.edu/mm5/overview.html I have no idea how BIS does the atmospheric modeling.
CarlGustaffa 4 Posted December 1, 2010 Uhm, no. There is no atmospherical simulations going on. We can't even have localized (to area) wind or visibility effects (attempts on both will cause more problems than benefits), and obviously no pressure systems. We can have some random effects, but it's probably just some simplistic random function. We lack: * Pressure (causing wind and augmenting cloud formation probability). * Temperatures (local and global, and TI effects of it is probably just a constant based on brightness). * Moisture saturation level (cloud formation, fog). * Air parcel movements due pressures and local effects. * Vertical air movement (significant source of thunderstorm creation), both by convection and mechanical. * Layers or shifts of all of the above. * We don't even have cloud types (stratus, cumulus) or altitude definitions for them (low, alto, cirrus). * In fact, we don't have volumetric clouds at all (those particles doesn't count :)). * Even sea roughness is based on overcast rather than wind (odd choice if you ask me). What we do have, is: setOvercast and forecast setFog and forecast setRain setWind and that's pretty much it. Simulation? Naah. Not even flightsim has proper weather simulation, and there it would make more sense. Such models doesn't make sense in a game, as most of us aren't meteorologists enough to understand the processes/setups needed to get the weather we're looking for in a mission. I'm not even sure what OP means by asking the question.
rcdxph 10 Posted December 1, 2010 Well, thank Carl Gustaffa ,and i am very happy to find the friends who study this kind of problem also. ---------- Post added at 11:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:35 PM ---------- In the virtual battle technology, people can use the MM5 model to simulate the weather, such as Pressure,Temperatures , Moisture saturation level, Air parcel movements due pressures and local effects, Vertical air movement and so on. The kind of technology is called synthetical nature environment(SNE), and is used to the OneSAF,JMASS,STOW and so on. and ,the VBS2 is equal to OneSAF, so i think the Arma2 must be achieve this simulation.
