kroky 1 Posted October 20, 2010 I would suggest to change the dialog when a unit is shouting "ammo low", to: "5, ammo low" right now when an AI unit of my group is telling me ammo low, I don't know what unit is telling this. When out of ammo, the color turn orange, which is good. What kind of benefit from it? Well, when I know a certain unit has a low amount of ammo then I don't send him (1,2 advance) to the front, since he could run out of ammo in the middle of a firefight. So please BIS implement this in one of the next beta patches!
Gunter Severloh 4088 Posted October 20, 2010 Or you could just use VFAI Rearming, or Rob's AS AI rearming, and you wont have to worry about the AI as they would rearm/equip themselves. In general I like the idea, it is a good point. Nothing more that pisses you off then an AI standing there or crawling around being useless because he has no more ammo especially when your numbers are dwindling. CarlGustaffa 4 Posted October 20, 2010 I ran through the campaign once in expert and without subtitles. I won't do it again. Since you're not getting this information, I'm assuming you're playing without subtitles, because with subtitles his number is shown as text. I'm not sure I want the number to be added to every single thing the AI speaks (it tend to always become all or nothing), I'd rather just activate subtitles and live with the slightly reduced immersion (working with AI I always feel forced to use some GUI help anyways). Another option is to use the map screen, then units and check their gear from there, before ordering them into action.
Gunter Severloh 4088 Posted October 20, 2010 No I dont use subtitles, I play with everything off except just the weapon/bullet indicator on top right and the fuel and armor and the compass in the middle. Suppose it be useless for me then. Dont matter to me really, I played this series so long that commanding is 2nd nature, when you command alot and know whats going on, anything extra and or added throws a wrench in the system or habits you built up, but Im open to new ideas. kroky 1 Posted October 20, 2010 I play all mission with VFAI (now Robalo's AI rearming) but the point is that I don't want to go an AI unit to first line fights when low on ammo. When he's under fire, he won't rearm anyway. (only in aware mode, not in danger mode). And yes I never used subtitles since day one of OFP. It breaks the immersion. So hopefully BIS will do something about it.
Gunter Severloh 4088 Posted October 20, 2010 Good point, Ai would get suppressed, and indeed wont be able to scavage, or get ammo. Maybe an indicator on the command bar at the bottem, next to the guy that needs ammo, that really wouldn't add much, maybe add a little letter A next to his little character then you def would have an idea who needs ammo. The icon turns red for me is it the same in OA, or is OA orange now? Icon does pretty much what were talking about already but if it were more specific and detailed then you would know that status of what guy, as the indicator can change for a guy that needs medical attention too, so you could have 2 guys where their inidcator turns red, but one needs ammo, and the other needs a medic. kroky 1 Posted October 20, 2010 Yes since OA the icon of the unit gets orange when out of ammo, and red when injured.
Gunter Severloh 4088 Posted October 21, 2010 Thats a change. I think maybe a small letter next to the soldiers profile would tell you more specifically what the soldier needs or basically his status, for example: A=ammo M=medic just the only two i can think of atm, Idk maybe its too gamey like, you already have the color differece, but what else is there that one needs to know when commanding a squad that details of needing ammo or even a medic?
