Black hawk sniper platform

Recommended Posts

Take a black hawk. cut off the other door. remove the seats. retain the gunner. allow 2 guys to sit in each doorway and only have those 4 guys in the back. and finally allow them to shoot out with there personal weapons making a sweet sniper platform.

as far as i know there can only be one guner per vehicle/item so having a sniping platform wouldnt be possible

yeah im not talking about multiple gunner tho. just allow the passengers to fire their weapons.

you would have to build the guns into the model and the game would see it as multiple gunners, instead of passengers

Yes the sniper rifle must be a model attached to chopper like the M2 in UH60, because as far as I know the game engine doesn't allow soldiers shoot from vehicles with their weapons.

but it does allow other weapons to "stick" to the vehicle with a script. i've put a M2 on an M1A1 before and shot both of them at the same time (well gunner had 1 i had the other) but personally i think that's rather pointless because nobody is going to hit shit with a sniper rifle when they're flying, and if they are being still that kind of makes sniping pointless because you're hovering in the air, everyone knows you're there, and you can just as easily shove some M-60 in their ass

It would be sort of like Ghost in the Shell near the end when those guys were sniping from that helicopter

you could make a sniper platform helicopter but only with one sniper would be fun i suppose but not very effective

can someone post some resources to this happening in real life and not in some movies? i just can't imagine hitting things with one shot from a moving target, have you ever tried to hit anything while walking sideways in the scope view?

Just a guess here, but Im betting that it has never happened in real life. A helicopter moves way too much. The sniper would never be able to aim.

i dont think it does happen, it would be more useful in real life to drop the sniper off, and he cant be there for firepower as ffar's are slightly better than bullets

If you read the book black hawk down it says that in the black hawks there were delta snipers picking off sammys, also to protect the durant crash site little bird co-pilots were using m-16's to pick off guys. ok take a black hawk get rid of the gunner have 1 guy in the door who can use his weapon . this would only be realistic in operations where there is no major threat to aircraft by the enemy and you'd have to use an xms, steyer or g36 cause they have faster fire rates on semi auto than the m21. then youd have to auto hover and try and pick guys off sure it might be unefficent but you must admit it would be cool to play around with.

you can if you import the gun model into the helicopter model and build it into the model, but it wouldnt change as new people got in they would 'pick up' the gun in the helicopter

Helicopter sniping platforms are common in urban conflicts. They did it in the Somalian conflict 1998 (Black Hawk Down).

But you must realise that when the term 'sniper' is used that doesn't neccessarily mean a 'Soldier proficient with the use of and carrying a sniper rifle', but simply a marksman with an accurate gun. The guys in 'Black Hawk Down' that were mentioned used M16s from the open door of a blackhawk.

It is very hard to do, because even when hovering the platform is never entirely still, often jumping about, so the use of a sniper rifle is pointless...particularly if very zoomed in because small jitters of the chopper will cause huge jumps down the scope, and thusly the barrel of the gun.

As for it working in the game; when a unit enters a vehicle he essentially become a part of the model, unable to move or fire a weapon, etc. The game engine as it stands only allows for one weapon to be fired from a vehicle at anyone time, so to have a 'sniper' would require that there was no gunner or helicopter arms at all, and that a soldiers model was edited to kneel in the door when a player (or AI) gets in with a functioning gun that would essentaially be appart of the craft. The Pilot could even have total control over the weapon by pressing manual fire.

i still don't see where it has a place in OFP

why would anyone want to replace a perfectly good MG with an infantry rifle?

What about making it as an object on the ground. Kinda make it look like it's dammaged and remove stuff and put on the ground. I'm pretty sure that would work.

Yeah...'cept I think that kinda defeats the purpose of a flying sniper platform... tounge.gif

If migs and phantoms and c-130s and any other type of plane has a place then what is wrong with fooling around with this idea?

i never said migs and phantoms have their place. or a C-130 for that matter although i would like a cargo plane. i feel this one has no place because 1: there is absolutely no point in replacing a 500 round .50 with personal firearms. i really don't see the fun in mounting an M-16 on a blackhawk. it is utterly useless unless you are going to auto hover 2m above the ground right in front of their face

ok i geuss i agree ... unless you were able to retain the gunner and still shoot out the side there might not be much point but id like to see a cooler door gun the 50. cal in this game is kind of unfustified mabey a minigun or whatever...

Well if someone can do it and it prepared to do it, then who are we to stand in their way? I don't think the question here is whether it'll be worth it, or even if it is realistic, but whether it can be done effectively and retain an eliment of fun. Which is after all what the game is all about.
