Mission not running on dedicated server... Or is it?

Just thought I'd throw this out there before I go mental in the hope someone might have had a similar experience. I apologise for the lack of logging information here but the server itself is not mine, I just upload missions to it.

I edited a version of Domination for Chernarus which works perfectly fine on a dedicated server running locally. Once I upload it to the hosted server, the mission doesn't even get as far as the countdown before the character selection screen, I just get the "waiting for host" message and then it bounces back to the mission selection. On a previous occasion it got to the countdown and then did nothing after running down to 0.

Both servers are mod free and Combined Operations. Can anyone shed some light on what might be causing this problem?

I have had similer issues, not with Domination but with missions I built for Mp.

Do you have access to the server's Rpt? it would be the server logs, just stream it and look through the list,

you might find an error in their saying "you cannot play or edit this mission as dowloadable content has been deleted" blah blah,

or get an error like this or this is missing, or a texture error.

The thing is anytime you edit an existing mission like domination, and or evo blue ,and I have done this:j:

make sure you are not editing the mission with any mods loaded, or running, or addons, ect.,

anything you add to the mission that is not on the server then you'll get your problem. this is just a hunch,

as I have had this issue where the game will load and then it drops you.

check the rpt if you can and see what you got, or list it here and I can give you an idea of whats going on.

Sadly I can't find the server's .rpt anywhere in the hosting company's file management system. I do have a mod loaded while editing but it's only a sound mod and it hasn't caused any problems in the other missions I've edited and uploaded. The soundmod also isn't running on my server at home... All that said, it's probably the reason this is going on even though I can't find any reference to it in the mission.sqm. I'll try again later anyway.

I have the same problem, though i host the server (dedicated, but on the same pc) with the mods listed in the mission.sqm, but it keeps going back to mission selection.

I just pbod the mission again but with no mods loaded whatsoever and it still doesn't run on the hosted server. I'll have to wait for my friend to get back from holiday so we can check the logs... Very odd.

One way to test to see if the mission works or not is to start a mp server you host on your own computer.

Go to mp , and start a server, pick the map that the mission is on and then host the map and try the mission,

any errors coming up should give you an indicator that it may not work on a dedicated server or gameserver in other words.

Problem with this type of test is that you can easily click continue and keep playing whereas the gameserver wont let you.

Before you edited Domination did the mission work before on the server?

if it did then what did you edit in the mission, as it seems that if I'm not mistaken whatever you edited is what is

causeing the mission not to run on the server. I feel your pain man I really do, I deal with this sort of thing all the time.

Please read my first post again :) I have tested this mission on a dedicated server in my house and it works flawlessly. As soon as I get the mission uploaded to the server hosted by a third party it fails.

I have been uploading weekly (sometimes daily) changes to our version of domination for a while now and none of them have caused this problem at all. I agree that it looks like it's due to a mod mismatch but there are no mods involved.

After conducting some tests it seems that the problems start when I change the playable units to BAF content. This is odd since as I said, it works fine on the server hosted here and the only thing I can think of that is different between the two setups is that I have BAF and the hosted server would only have BAF lite but this really shouldn't make any difference at all surely?

Also, all previous Domination variants that I have uploaded have involved BAF units and they run fine also.

Sorry, I had a long night of compiling, testing, organizing, uploading, and updating stuff, so im rather weary,

i can mis read things some times.

anyways i can only assume then its what you said here:

what is the hosted server running, Arma2, and OA?

Server needs whats in the mission or you getting missing file errors,

and the server will kick you back to the selection screen.

Have you tried running the stock mission itself on the server?

If it dont work on the server then the server needs something.

The server is a Combined Ops server. All other missions that we've been running requiring BAF content work fine, it's just this one particular mission. The stock mission itself runs fine.

My test environment "should" be exactly the same as the "Live" one, I only run BAF full on my client and BAF lite on the server... Both servers are windows boxes but for the sake of sanity let's not go beyond the assumption that it's something to do with Arma 2

upload your baf folder, just to check it, if it works then you have your answer, if it doesnt then its nothing to do with BAF

lol. A 450mb upload that I have to do through the poxy web interface one file at a time... That will be fun.
